Rikita, I bought a well ring from my neighbor on Sunday. It's a big concrete ring over 40" across & 18" high, meant for lining a water well.

Anyway, he & his son got it into the yard & positioned it exactly where I wanted it. I then transferred the contents of my compost heap into the ring, got it all smoothed out & the yard cleaned up before the rains came.

Of course the dogs were interested, including some preliminary poking at it. Only the big rescue puppy can reach it, so that narrows down the suspects considerably. Fierce reprimanding & threats on my part.

Yesterday I planted it with some items bought especially for the purpose, plus some seeds I'd brought from the US. I stood back & was profoundly & simply happy. It looked exactly as I had envisioned it & I was full of delighted anticipation of its development. To make everything even more perfect, lovely gentle rains came then, exactly what was needed to settle everything in.

Then the @#$%^&*+!=~°"/¿} DOG got into it and totally ruined it. White hot homicidal RAGE on my part.

On topic: distant muffled hammering and drilling from one of the neighbors, but mostly just bird song.

ah that was an older kid though, the age where you can usually ignore it when they scream (sounded more like one of the kids playing football and shouting at hte other team)... but of course i hear the smaller ones quite often too...

Somebody is setting off cherry bombs outside. Firecrackers are forbidden in Paris (since 9/11), but the Chinese shops still often sell them under the counter. As July 14th approaches, one hears this sort of thing because some people just can't wait.
