The precious darlings!

Even though I already have the immensely cool name of Bixa orellana, I'm deeply tempted to change it to Haworthia tesellata.

The Cheiridopsis is very peculiaris indeed. Is that a little flower bud on it?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just found this & it seems to be excellent, compact information for growing succulents. Mick, if you get a chance, it would be great if you could look it over & say whether it's worthy or not. :-*
You could call yourself Tess Elata..............
Yes, a flower bud on the Cheiridopsis. I shall repot that at the weekend to make it look better. It's still in the seed pot from 3 years ago.....
I'll have a look over that site later Tess.
it's all pretty sound although I don't agree with everything (as you might guess) particularly adding limestone for some plants.
My sister's jade tree, taken from the 2nd floor window. It's about 6 feet tall and in full bloom, and is just one of several in her San Francisco area yard.
That's dramatic!
Mick, was that cactus deliberately deprived of water for a resting period? Also, when resting a cactus, how do you decide when it's time to start watering it again?
Yes, in winter from about September to March my cacti receive no water otherwise they wouold rot. Plus the resting period encourages them to flower.
I start basically when I can see them showing signs of growth although in this case I'm not sure there were any. It was just that weather then in March was ideal for their first drink.
Commie.
This is a really superb bunch of pictures and cacti, Mick. Wow. It's a bit of a thrill to see we have some of the same things. That 3rd pic in #671, with the pale blue cactus I'm too lazy to go find the name of right now -- love that photo.
What's the tufty one just below the three bishop's caps please? And the white fingery one on the far left in the 3rd pic of #672? I have the feeling some that nice person gave me some of that, except mine is still a baby.
Yay ~~ another succulent fan! Welcome, Bez.
I went & looked up H. concinna & can see why you were dubious about the label on your plant. However this picture from Dave's Garden closely resembles your flower: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/289575/
Some descriptions called the flower "sulphur yellow" and others described it as white. One source said "It is unusual in that it has no fragrance." That could be the defining clue. (but the photo next to that description looks nothing like the description. :-/ http://www.anniesmagicgarden.com/product.php?productid=17775).
Then there's this: http://www.biolib.cz/en/taxonimage/id85601/, which closely resembles your flower.
Where's Mick?
And Mick, I failed to even comment, much less wax eloquent over your most recent spate of pictures, wherein you once again agitated my A. polyphylla lust. That was almost eclipsed, though, by the covetousness provoked by the A. peglerae ~~ oooooooo!
Those horse cripplers grew all over where I lived in south Texas. I really like them. There's a similarly magnificent Ferocactus here that gets quite large.
Forgot to mention about the little cactus from Cuba -- I had a very similar, possibly identical one & some old guys here told me the fruit of it was candied & eaten.
After visiting this thread, last night I dreamed that I had a lovely cactus that I discovered completely shriveled and dead in its pot, and I felt that it was terribly unfair. I wonder what this means.
