Well, I'll be. I finally met an automated bathroom appliance I love! It's a toilet paper dispenser that -instead of making you scrabble with your fingernails to get the paper started and then it won't tear off - senses your hand as soon as you reach for the tissue and reels off 15 inches and cuts it off. Every time! What an invention!
1328. Public bathrooms that have automated only SOME of their appliances. I feel silly waving my hands under the soap dispenser only to find that I have to push the button.

^ Why 15 inches, I wonder, isnt that a bit wasteful, I reckon 12 inches would be more of an optimal size.............................

The radar in common use for traffic enforcement are highly unlikely to be capable of reliably discerning a 2 km/h speed differential. In the US you couldn't even be charged for that "infraction" as the law recognizes the intrinsic margin of error. I'm sure if you wanted you could beat the ticket on those technical grounds. Of course the fine is low enough to disincentivize contesting it if it doesn't have implications with insurance rates.
If I drive that little over the posted limit here I get angry tailgaters. I drive 4 mph over as policy and still annoy people with how slow I'm going. And have never had a speeding ticket.

My speed was "adjusted" as per usual procedure -- "car clocked at 57 km/h adjusted to 52 km/h."

People seem to drive far more flagrantly over the limit than that in most of Europe, at least on the open road. Most of the enforecment seems to be in the towns and cities. In Italy on the autostrade it isn't unusual to be tooling along around the usual 110 km/h limit and have a BMW or the like flash by like you're standing stationary.

1343. taking some of my overtime, because for once i want to be at home early and get things done - and then some idiot has left some thick wire lying around on the street and of course it gets caught exactly in the gear-thing of my bike and stuck there so i try for ages to pull it out, in the end have to push my bike for many kilometres (obviously htis happens far away from any bike shop) and when i reach the bike shop wait because they are busy with other costumers. in the end i got home even later than usual - what a waste of overtime...

I have noticed that when I leave the office even just 5 minutes early, it ensures that I will get home 10 minutes late, due to a metro delay or whatever.

Gad, Rikita -- that was a whole silent movie of accumulated disaster!
Hope you got to have a long hot bath or some other decompression treat after that ordeal.
There are several peaks here in this small but traffic-crammed city, so not paying attention to the times means stuck-in-traffic misery and arriving late. It sounds as though there is a whole contingent of workers sneaking out early in Paris, & you get punished for your occasional innocent little treat by being caught up in the exodus.

Rikita, venting & carb-loading are time-honored decompression methods for a reason.
Kerouac: Peeve? Or full-blown neurosis?
On the other hand, giving a new computer the most dust-free environment possible seems like a good idea.

1346. Thinking of a pet peeve, and before I can open this thread to post it, forgetting it! Especially peeved that this has happened multiple times for the same "peeve"
(Too much like walking into a room to get something and forgetting what it was and having to go back to where you were and reconstruct what you were doing so you can remember it again, only to forget it again by the time you get to the room where it is...)
