A few years ago I stayed fairly close to Place de la République and I actually wanted to stay even closer to the area this summer. However, once I got serious about looking at apartments the ones I was familiar with were taken except this little place in the 7th.

Are you sure you don't mean the 6th? The 7th and the 8th are on different sides of the Seine.

Oh htmb - you make me soooo envious! You got to walk along the new 'riviera' just like Kerouac! (You weren't together by any chance.......)? ;D You certainly took some wonderful photos with surprising new angles on scenes I've seen many times - well done ! Thank you for the link on the apartment near the Sorbonne...You're a honey!

Thanks, Tod. You might really my current apartment, too. Remind me later if you are interested and I will send you the link. It's through a different company. It's pretty nice, though I can tell you the person in the apartment above gets up at 6:10 AM each weekday morning, and takes 45 minutes to get ready for their day.

Htmb - Yes, I would love the link to your current apartment. You are certainly close to Blvd Saint Germain with an overflow of cafe's and restaurants. Good and cheaper places down the side streets too. Have you been to the huge covered market in Rue Clement near the Mabillon metro stop? If you have the St.Clotilde church near you, there is a lovely restaurant in front(maybe behind?) the church. This place raves about it's steak onglet. Looking forward to more and more photos!!

Not far from Buttes Chaumont is: I've wanted to visit the area ever since I read Kerouac's marvelous reports. Here and here are just two, but perhaps there are more? Below are just a few pictures of what I saw. If I ever move to Paris this is where I want to live. Either one of these would be perfect all fixed up.

If you fancy living in tHe Mouzaiai area you are into 600,000 euros and upwards. Buttes Chaumont is my favourite parc and you have shown some lovely pictures of it.

This is a glorious array of gorgeous photography, Htmb. Really, it could stand alone, but of course your text nicely illuminates the area, as always.

AW gee, I am so sorry you are moving on....Lovely lovely photos again Htmb! I have yet to visit the Mouzaia. Are you off home then? Sorry, Tod, I didn't see this before now. Yes, after a very long and arduous day of traveling, I am back home. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip. I met a lot of very nice people, both in the UK and in France, and certainly visited some wonderful places. Obviously, I like to post reports as I go if I can because I find I need to write things down anyway. Might as well do it while traveling if time permits. Now that I am back in my "real world" I find I have yet another smoke detector beeping, an overly distraught cat, no food in the house, chores to be done, work responsibilities, etc, etc. So, while I dreamed of my future trip during the weeks leading up to it, now while I'm tackling some mundane task or another I can reminisce on the great time I had and relive some of those wonderful days.

Is this what we call the splendid "bouquet final" at the end of a fireworks show?

Yes, the eastern 17th or western 18th around La Fourche is much more accessible, and a very lively neighbourhood. It still is only a brief stroll to Square des Batignolles, or even Parc Monceau.
Funny, I like to be higher up. I think my favourite stay in Paris was up in the 20th in Ménilmontant, just uphill from rue des Pyrénées. I loved the air and the modest but quiet neighbourhood, and going down "into Paris".

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's current health issues and hope all gets back on track soon. It's also very sad to see reports about the recent tragedy of the firefighters. A very sad time for the whole state of Arizona, to be sure.
