We have quite a few lakes and beaches in the area. Here is a photo of one down the road, that I took in the early evening yesterday. The locals like to go out on their boats on this (and other nearby lakes). This one is great for fishing too, my kids like to dive into the lake at the end of the boardwalk.

It would be nice to see your lake/sea/ocean/beach pictures too. :)

The area of the English Channel is very misty and hazy, so it is quite rare to see the other side of the channel.

However, on one perfect day, I took this picture of England from Cap Gris Nez, the closest point in France to the English coast.

Kerouac, such a nice pic. That must have been a really clear day.

imec, amazing how you captured it all so well, including the birds! Is the area very sandy? And what was or is that structure in the second picture? And idea? Looks very isolated too. Were you on holiday there or just passing through?

The same beach after storms threw up lots of shells.

Sanibel and Captiva Islands are called the Seashell Islands for a reason.

The beaches of North Queensland, Australia, blew us away. They were so nice, and there were so many of them, and they were so not-built-up.

Will have to post some pics here, when I get done sorting the photos from the trip.

Wow, really nice beaches. I've heard that the one's in Australia are outstanding. I can't believe how many shells are washed up on the shore there.

Whew!!! Tilly, did you always know you were a good photographer, or is this something recently discovered? Those pictures are so wonderful in mood, composition, clarity and beauty. I want to be in that place right now.

And Kimby -- what a wonderful tropical contrast to the northern mood of Tilly's pictures! I absolutely love that second one, with the lowering Gulf sky, tossing palms, and ominous line of green on the horizon. And there is great tension created by the eye wanting both to look at all that and at the treasury of shells.

I've been to Sanibel, but missed out on a super shelling day.

Oh thanks Bixa for saying I am a good photographer, but its really just I am an enthusiastic one and take so many pictures that the law of averages says there will be a few good ones ;)

Kimby, your beaches made me want to just feel the sun on my cold bones this morning! I felt my shoulders relaxing looking at them!

I'm getting anxious to hang out on Sanibel's beaches - heading there soon.

BTW last time we were there in May, we took a moonlit walk under a full moon and watched a loggerhead turtle digging her nest and laying eggs, then dragging her huge old carapace - totally not adapted for terrestrial locomotion - back to the sea, where she gracefully re-entered her element.

thanks, deyana. It was fun to watch the ice melt and reform every day during our week-long trudge and burn session, which caused us to cross this creek multiple times a day. The icicles formed around pine needles as water from melting snow/ice dripped off their tips....

imec, I've changed both those things now. My future photos (and some that I took recently) are re-sized on photo bucket to come out as large now. And I've got rid of the date on the bottom right corner too. I agree they do look better bigger now.
