Great variety, Lugg. I particularly like those first two pictures.

You can only understand the hugeness of this handle by looking at the normal sized handle in the bottom right of the photo

Nope, it is a door to the kingdom of the dead.

Great shot K2. I was always offended by the original intro to this thread as I found it offensive, crude and sexist to say the least. MY INNER NASTY VOICE ALWAYS TOLD ME, 'those "great knockers will give prey to gravity unless artificially "lifted" AND damn those who tormented me in my adolescence. Enjoy your harnesses you cruel bitches). There, I said it, and "got it off my chest'. Sorry, but, this was great thread idea but, from the get go, offensive in it's intro Which gratefully WIZARD ammended.

Frankly, I don't even remember how most of these threads start, but I can imagine how that introduction could have offended a lot of people, and not only women.

I don't have a picture of one, but a common feature in the farming and outback houses in Oz is a fly wheel off a wrecked car or tractor hanging near the door. Hanging beside it is a hammer or old metallic tool. The person visiting gives a couple of lusty blows onto the fly wheel with the hammer and a loud but melodic ringing ensues. It is heard in the house, the sheds and barns, the dairy and shearing quarters and echoes halfway to the next valley.
The caller sits in the old chair on the verandah and waits for someone to turn up. This is also used as a mealtime gong.

Very elegant. Love that old gold on the dark background.

It was on the side door of Bleak House. The Bleak House of Dickens fame.

A very small handle of an inner door - catalan modernism style of the late 19th century.
