Oh, it was just a day in the country, not the annual transvestite festival.

FMT, your stunning spiderwebs distract one from the furry lupine seedpods.

Thanks for the link, kerouac. I was surprised to see the owner of the orange talons. Not what I expected at all.

Ceiling of the ladies toilets at Phabeni Gate, the newest gate in Kruger National Park. Unforunately my photo does not show the grass rope wound around every pole in the roof unless you look very hard.
All made of grass (attached to wood, of course).

Fascinating, Tod. Here they're called palapas & made from palm leaves. I'll bet that grass roof smells lovely.

Kerouac, I absolutely love that picture!

Kimby this is probably not allowed, but I would take a bucketful to take home. I am sure your friends in Montana would like a bunch of them. Wrap some up in a pretty fabric and tie with a pretty satin bow and you have a nice hostess gift. My mom spent quite a bit of money at a craft store for some of these, she filled a glass dish with the shells and used them as decoration in her bathroom which has a color them of the beach.

I have baskets and vases and trays full of shells all over my house(s).
But I picked them up one by one. The problem with scooping up bucketsful is that so many are broken or uninspiring common white shells. (But if you came to visit, I wouldn't stop you from taking a bucket load home if you wanted!)

Well thank you very much Kimby! Now that I know this, I would still bring my bucket, but spend an afternoon filling it with favorite ones since I do not have to worry about being arrested or insulting the natives. :)
Cheers!

bixa, that spider needs to start over, his web is a mess!

Kerouac's 223 deserves a 2nd look. That "sky" has leaves floating in it!

Tod, nice ceiling. Though you risk "falling in" if you crane your neck to look at it!

Cheery, it's definitely old -- from the colonial era. It was taken in Sto. Domingo church. I googled about the statues & one source said plaster. However, looking at a bunch of them, it seems some might be stone, others plaster, & some wood. Have you seen my thread on Sto. Domingo?
