Ah, thanks! Crotons always amaze me, and Kerouac's example is particularly fine. I love the feel of that pic, with the glimpse of bamboo on the side.

Fabulous photo,I would like to know more detail of what this is,have a general idea...I love the tones, and anything with water always excites me. Oft times earth tones like this are not usually in our minds as depictions of color, whereas this illustrates how much so they are.

Casi, this is part of a huge and old rock at my brother’s cottage, near Georgian Bay in the Bruce Peninsula. You bring up an interesting point that I have noticed as this thread develops. When people think of Color!, they often seem to think of a rather limited palette…bright, deeply saturated, intense, jewel tones etc. The whole color spectrum is made up of about 16 million colors.

A good introduction to color theory, http://www.cheryllins.com/color_theory.html

Again, such a great pic. The topic of color and how we depict it,see it,think of it, is an interesting one indeed. Great link! I think we should all explore this some more. A very valuable tool.
Thanks!!

This carousel horse was painted by (and in the style of) artist Larry Pirnie. Though I go for more traditional flowers and ribbons carousel ponies, this one is the kids' clear favorite.

Oooooo ~~ the crocus (?) is world-class! Love the monarda, especially with the pine sticking up there on the side. No idea what the last two plants are, but they're impressive pictures.

If it's a crocus, it's a fall-blooming one, photographed in Italy. I like that one, too.

The bee balm (Monarda) is in my back yard, and is a spontaneous mutation from the native pale purple to a hot pink color. There are also magenta mutants and for a couple years, fire-engine red ones, too, but they didn't come back last year. No idea why they mutated. And I'm not aware of any cultivated varieties in my neighbors' yards to provide pollen for hybridization.

The red tree was on the bank of the Daintree River in North Queensland, and the mysterious purple one was taken in Italy in 2008.

The first two were both taken stateside, during the summer, the wildflowers in the Pioneer Mountains in Montana and the poppy in my Michigan cousin's garden.
