Lovely, lovely ,lovely! Except for the canal ( which one?) it could be a scene from near me too Yesterday the fog was so thick I could only see 10yards ahead with foglights on front and rear.

It's called the New River but it's about 400 years old and was originally dug by hand to take fresh water into London (which it still does), a distance of about 20 or so miles.

Found it on my map - thanks! Those boxed hedges are very high - must take a machine to get up there.

I have always loved fog. The whole "blanket" feeling appeals to me, except in certain horror movies.

Mick, I forgot to mention the duck. The one standing pruning itself on the right - In my bird book the nearest looking one is a Pygmy Goose described as : Dark green upper parts and short yellow bill. Can you identify it? Thanks.

I can see why you said that...... 'The mallard is the most abundant duck in the world' according to a link I Googled. However, WE don't seem to have them!

I never have my camera with me when I see something amazing.... I got this shot because I was at home.... I have lost count of the number of times I stop my car to look at something and realise that, yet again, I have forgotten my camera..... I liked this one because of the foreshortening effect the mist had......the forest is a massive length of field away but looks much closer because of the mist... And yes, it was snow......but only a sprinkling!

Oh, city girl and country boy ~~ what beautiful views you bring us!
That's an amazing shot, NYCGirl, with the mistiness & also the sharpness of some details. You can even see the stripes on the flag!
Kerouac, that is exquisite -- no other word for it.
(Have we lost Kerouac to The Darkling Wood?)

Thanks! I wish there wasn't scaffolding there, but I suppose a blemish on my view is a small price to pay for a well-maintained bridge.
Kerouac, that shot is magical! I almost expect to see unicorns and fairies peeking behind the trees.

I wish there wasn't scaffolding there What scaffolding? The image as a whole is so striking, I missed noticing scaffolding. (And the flag, too. Guess I'm a "big picture" sort of gal!) Kerouac's forest image is achingly beautiful.

looks rather like an "inversion" Mark, in which the cold air is trapped under a layer of clouds, and the temperatures are actually warmer at elevation.
