Back in the world of innocence of the year 2000, there were numerous festive events to celebrate the coming of the new century, a time when we were all going to have fun. One of the more amusing events in Paris was the transformation of the route nationale 2 into the route nationale 2000 -- not the whole thing from Paris to the Belgian border but a section of six kilometers from Paris to the suburb of Le Bourget. So the road was closed down for one weekend and the residents of each city along the way put their creativity to work. Gardens suddenly flourished on the pavement/ Vehicles were abandoned to their sad fate. Rest areas were plentiful. Life was just more fanciful and complete strangers had fun discovering the wonders of the new century. When the weekend ended, everything was picked up and tossed away and real life took over again.

Oh -- that was fun! In my literal-minded way, it took me a moment to "get it", but what a great team effort at creating zaniness. I absolutely love the last shot of the garden.

They should have done it all the way to the border.
