An evening at the fun fair

The other day, I was visiting a major city in eastern France, and as I passed one street, I was struck by something that I saw.

Like a moth to a flame, I headed in that direction and in a few minutes I was there.

Fun houses!

Junk food!

Neon lights!

Just a tiny bit of music and animation is in order.

I just love fun-fairs. The lights, the sparkle, even the loud blaring music. This one looks like it was huge, Kerouac.

This has to be the most elaborate Fun Fair I have ever seen! I would have been there for hours. We have a small fun fair that comes here usually twice during the summer months but it seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Music festivals are popular now so they are trying to be included alongside those festivals. Hopefully that may revive them.

The food looked amazing. The selection here would be just the hamburger, hot dog, fries, cotton candy, candied apples etc. I definitely prefer this fairs offerings.

In one photo there was a woman figurine in futuristic clothing with her breasts exposed, that would never be allowed here. Quite a difference in our cultures in that respect.

Did you go on any rides or have anything to eat or drink?

Cheers

Actually this fête foraine was a bit bigger than I expected (and my photos do not show everything that was there). Nevertheless, it is only about a quarter of the size of the Foire du Trône currently going on in Paris. Nevertheless, the Paris metropolitan area has a population of about 10 million, and this was the Foire de Nancy, a city of 100,000 with a metropolitan area of 430,000 -- so that does make the size of this fair impressive.

No, I did not consume anything or go on any rides. I had just recently eaten a huge kebab frites in the city for 4.80€, so I was full, but the whole suckling pigs turning on spits did look quite appealing.

Yes, impressive indeed. The photo of the three bbq's made me thinks how delicious it must have smelt wandering around the Fair.

I cannot even grasp the scale of the Fair in Paris. Where in the city is it set up and for how long will the Fair last?

Cheers

The main fair in Paris generally runs from Easter to Pentecost. It is in the Bois de Vincennes (metro Porte Dorée). But there is also the small fair in the Tuileries (forbidden from having music or making noise) during part of the summer, followed by the Fête des Loges in the forest of Saint Germain-en-Laye in July (about half as big as the Foire du Trône and more devoted to rotisseries than the other fairs). And finally there is the Fête à Neu-Neu in the Bois de Boulogne in the autumn, but I have never been to it, so I don't know how big it is (Neu-Neu is a play on words for the nearby suburb of Neuilly and also a slang word for simpleton).

I was in the Bois de Vincennes today and could see the Foire du Trône in the distance, but I did not approach it. Maybe a bit later in the season.

I see that the Fete a Neu-Neu will be available when we visit in September so I will write this down on our to visit list. I have also never been to the Bois de Boulonge so this will be two new experiences. You provide so much information, I am always learning something from you. Thank you.

Cheers

Colorful but still a lot of electrical waste with old bulbs. When will these things start using new low wattage LED and other lighting?

I felt my motion sickness kicking in just looking at these photos ;)

Fantastic, especially the slide show groupings which really enhanced the effect. Like Mich I would say the food offerings look more varied than those seen at fairs in the UK

Fantastic photo essay! The first shot of the Ferris Wheel is a classic. Thanks for this. I love a fair. I haven't been to one in a long long time.

Wonderful! Exciting! Glorious. That's a brilliant use of the slide show feature. And even more dizzying fun can be extracted from this thread by scrolling it rapidly up and down. Thanks -- this was great!
