My blood boils whenever I have to be inflicted with BAD pronunciation in the name of ENGLISH! Tonight a reporter repeatedly pronounced that David CAMEROOOOOON was meeting with Jacob Zuma and David Cameroooooon was doing this and that! Did the twit not twig that CAMEROON is an African state?
It also tells me that the news reporter did not review his notes and read over his part before going on air -TV.
It has become so bad that we have stopped listening to the news on radio because we are constantly playing 'catch-up' with news readers trying to figure out what they are talking about.
I desperately want an English speaking person to read the news in Zulu or any other African language and let the listeners squirm at the pronunciation!

I think his party wishes he was! Personally I like David Cameron - he speaks with eloquent conviction which is one thing our leaders do not do. They stutter and ummmmmmm for most of the time, then repeat themselves several times over before ending on a non-commital note.....or any note for that matter.

Still waiting to see if the Rupert Murdoch scandals suck him under, though.

Ladbrokes have just cut David Cameron's resignation odds from 100/1 to 8/1. Might still be worth throwing the odd quid at.

They're all much of a muchness....it's quite difficult to tell them all apart tbh. David Cameron is a good speaker, as is Nick Clegg, whilst the unfortunate Milliband (why did the labour party elect the wrong brother as their leader?) is yet to find his way...
I don't have a lot of time for any of the current batch.
On tv here in the UK regional accents are no longer frowned upon...but the newsreaders are schooled in pronunciation....they probably get it wrong sometimes tho.....

To me, he speaks like the PR man he was before getting into Parliament. Decades ago, in the Macmillan era, Michael Frayn invented, for his newspaper column, an all-purpose Tory minister called Christopher Smoothe (the Minister for Bingo), and Cameron is, to me, his living embodiment.
Assuming your reporter isn't so dim as to refer to Cameroon Diaz, tod, it's just possible he might have been confused by the way some people referred to the body of friends and backroom staff Cameron collected around him as the "Cameroons".

Gotcha Patrick - I cannot begin to explain how refreshing it is to listen to ANYONE who can speak without stuttering mostly errr, errr, errrrrrr, ummm, ummmm, ummmm, well, well, errr, ummmm!!! And then end up saying something totally not connected to the question or go on another tangent altogether All I can say is our politicians desperately need some lessons from that PR man!
I think total laziness or over confidence may be the underlying problem to our Polictical leaders/TV & Radio reporters. It's clear they do not go over their reports before going on air to straighten out any words or names they are not completely comfortable with.

That's funny!
Politicians (and I am a bit into politics) are politicians... they're somehow actors. They never tell what they really think because they are afraid to lose votes. A politician will be friendly in public to you if you can be of help. He will gladly ignore you behind closed doors, though, if you don't tell him/her what he/she wants to hear.
Unfortunately, I have found that even those who are loudly calling for politics to be more in tune with reality behave the same. Can you look at yourself in the mirror?

I don't have the intelligence or the ambition to be a politician...but I really have no faith in the current lot either. They may have very good speech writers and image consultants, but I don't believe that they give a stuff about the common people. I can honestly say that if there was an election tomorrow there isn't a single candidate that I would want to vote for!
