At Manouba University in Tunis there was recently quite a bit of agitation due to Islamic fundamentalists of the Salafist branch trying to get the right for women wearing niqabs to enter the campus. The university president remained adamant in his refusal to allow niqabs, and in any case wearing a niqab is forbidden by Tunisian law.
One day a Salafist climbed on the roof of the entrance building and removed the Tunisian flag to replace it was the black flag of Salafism. What he did not count on was a courageous young woman wearing jeans coming after him.
This video has become a rallying call across the Maghreb for people supporting secularism and feminist rights. The woman was later invited to meet the president, who congratulated her for what she did.
