People say that?!

Don't know why I'm surprised, though. I've watched people "do" places with a mental clipboard. You can practically see them checking off sites: "been there" "did that", etc. And they don't seem to be grabbed by any of it. You have to wonder ~~ why they don't just stay home where it's comfortable and you can drink the water and just look at a nice picture book of the foreign locale?

You can try them fried in an omelet:

Best way IMO would be raw though.

Raw is absolutely the best.

Rikita, you know that first whiff you get of the salt air when you go to the beach -- the different freshness and excitement that you suddenly feel? That is how a raw oyster tastes!

What's the name of that chain of fish mongers/restaurants in Germany? Nordsee? They have fresh oysters every day. I used to get half a dozen there after work on my way home. Maybe they have something similar where you are?

This is the seafood for two that we had as our first dinner in Paris. I have the name of the bistro, I just have to find the card. I will be posting a food journal from our trip later.

Yes. As well as lobster, there were different mollusks buried down under. Also, there was the white ones, which I am not sure what they are. I think it is some sort of languestino. There were other tiny little shellfish, which you can't see that we used a small pick to get the meat out. There also was an additional plate which we didn't take a picture of. But there was double of everything, so, a dozen oysters, etc. They served a whole pile of bread, some of it was cooked, some not. It was amazing and we went through 2 carafes of wine. Luckily we had a small walk back to the apartment, so we did walk off some of it.

T63's photo is more or less the traditional presentation of a seafood platter in France.

There are different sizes for different needs.

New FDA rule to go into effect 2011,would require oysters from the Gulf of Mexico to go through a "sterilization" process during the months of April through September! This will KILL the local oyster industry!

The oystermen at the market today said this will kill them. The new rule will apply through October, not even September as I had thought. Very bad news.

Doesn't the FDA have something else to fucking worry about other then a mere handful of people POSSIBLY taking ill? No one with a low immunity should be eating anything raw!
