Looks like the Fête de la Musique is going to be rained out across much of France. It was already officially cancelled in the eastern half of the country this afternoon due to a severe weather alert in effect until midnight. We just had a very violent thunderstorm in Paris a half hour ago with more on the way.

I am glad that I already had other plans for this evening. 8-)

The Karcade I bought in Paris looks really nice in the bottle of gin! Such a pretty pink!

Leaving my friends' dinner party, I really regretted not having been out on the Bassin de la Villette for the Fête de la Musique. But I gallantly walked one of my colleagues to the metro at midnight (not that she needed me), so we passed lots of interesting activity. I stopped to take a few photos here and there and will find a place to post them sooner or later.

Oh, it's not raining that hard. The Champs Elysées is closed to traffic all day today (until 8pm) to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Vélib.

Oh, great, thanks! I had no idea.i It isn't raining much at all, but if you look at the weather radar map there's dark green surrounding the city. I don't mind a little rain as long as there's no lightening. Living in Florida, I have a lot of respect for it (translation = more like fear due to three bad strikes on my home). Maybe I will venture out later, or, then again, staying inside with a good book on a Sunday afternoon is kind of nice, too.

here the weather for the fete de la musique was nice, and i could hear the music from the stage across the street in my apartment, as if the band was playing in the next room. i did go out then though and listened to music outside. but as last year, they also took down the stage this year after midnight, producing quite a few clanging noises...

Ah, I see that the very amazing thread has now been closed (as expected) so we will never know. I am actually surprised that it lasted so long.

Actually the main thing that dismays me about such a subject is how 80% of the women will take a certain side and 95% of the men will take a different side. I keep hoping that there will be equality of the sexes some day, but clearly it will not be any time soon when we have such automatic reactions.

Now, it is unfair not to reveal to anybody else reading this what we are talking about, so I will tell you.

A woman (maybe) wrote that she had an awful experience in a 4-star modern nice hotel. A man (employee of the hotel) walked into her room, turned on the light at 3:40 a.m. with the intention of raping her. He changed his mind when he saw that she had invited someone else to sleep in the other twin bed. 'I can't tell you anything else because of the police investigation.'

I guess it would not hurt to pack a small door wedge and place it each night before going to bed so no one could enter.

I used to have to travel with my job frequently and will say some times at check in some clerks made me a little nervous.

i was once traveling alone at night in an almost empty train and woke up from the conductor standing in my compartment (that is, he left the moment i woke up, but i jumped up and looked outside into the hallway and thus saw it was him).

well not sure they were from here, cause the wrapping paper said fair trade and that's usually for things from further away - but fair trade is good...

well, he has phases of bringing me flowers often and others where he doesn't, i guess it depends on his mood... but he brings them often enough for the last time not having been too long ago, and seldom enough for it still being something special...
