American crows. I don't know that we get Fish crows here in town...will have to check. I heard a distinct song of the Red Eyed Vireo early this morning. This week is peak Springtime migratory bird action here.

Oh, I LOVE that time of year! So far here it's mainly winter residents and robins. Nothing too exciting. Though I do get pretty excited when I hear the first robins, often days before I see one.

Silence. I love it. As my house is double glazed, I don't even hear the birds unless I open the windows! Once they are open, I hear the birds, squirrels, sometimes my cats and dog, the occasional ATV or dirt bike passing by... Soon I'll be hearing the chorus of crickets and grasshoppers in addition to other animals... The crickets can be quite loud.

The sound I hear right now is a song on the radio called 'Everybody's Starry Eyed'....the little girl next door is always singing this in high tones. I like to listen to her.

I'm hearing Whitney Houston on the morning "news" show "Today" screeching the lyrics to her trademark "I Will Always Love You" at a concert somewhere in England - apparently it's news that she's not ready for prime time, after years of drug problems and marital problems.

And for your listening pleasure, I give you.... 1 minute of hell

Quiet here save the continued lovely birdsong...lovely time of day before all the noise begins.

(I put up with this for 3 hours while they cleaned the heating/AC ducts in my house today) Did you voluntarily subject yourself to this imec, or was it an evil landlord who did it to you? Mr. Kimby is convinced that duct cleaning is simply a scam to separate homeowners from their money. Wouldn't it take about 1000 years for the dust to accumulate to a thickness that would hamper airflow? Or is it for allergies? Some of those noises sounded like they were grinding away at the ducts. (Then they offer to repair any leaks, for a price of course.)

The furnace broke on Monday and when they were fixing it I succumbed to their scam - yes I actually paid for that torture session. I had actually forgotten to replace a filter some time ago (after removing the old one) so there was no question that the ducts were full of nasty dust and hair. Both of the kids suffer from mild asthma so it was likely necessary. The noises are truly harrowing - lots of shouting accompanying the work too. Nightmare.

A flicker (type of woodpecker) hammering away at a neighbor's metal chimney pipe.

Took this day before yesterday at late dusk. Turn it up to get the true effect of the cicadas blastig away. I love the way it builds and ebbs.

Listening to my kitty-girl, Mia, making the querulous call she makes when she's "killed" a snake. A life-sized rubber snake that we hide around the house and she periodically drags around crowing after having killed yet another snake. Usually at bedtime, but it was a morning kill today.

One of the reasons I love it is because supposedly they're announcing rain. That was the sound I woke up to this morning, and it hasn't stopped all day. Of course it's muted in the house, and there's something about it that must mesh with something natural in humans, as it is pleasurable in a sort of subliminal way.
If you're outside trying to have a conversation when they really crank up, though, it's impossible!
Good girl, Mia! Has she ever gotten a real snake?

Mo and Mia do not go outside. Ever. So no real snakes. Spiders and the occasional stink bug are the extent of live prey for them.
Our old kitty, Boodles, who lived to be 20 1/2 did go outside and was a great huntress. Judging how the snake population has increased since she died 10 years ago, she must have caught snakes. Or maybe she caught the mice that feed the snakes. I do know that we never used to see chipmunks and now that we have inside kitties we do. Boodles once caught a hummingbird right out of the air. And too many times we watched horrified as she stalked birds on the birdfeeder and jumped up and snatched them off the feeder. That's why we have inside cats now. Also, because there are things in the woods here that would love to eat kitties: coyotes, owls, dogs, maybe even an occasional wolf...

Those little guys are deafening!
Good sounds here last night. I lay out in the hammock listening to an accordian some ways down the road, which was at times accompanied by a man singing. It was traditional Mexican music, but some of it sounded like Cajun ballads.

again silence here (other than music) - though earlier today there was a weird sound, and after a while i found out it was my toilet, the flushing got caught somehow and just kept running.

Earlier today it was the staccato of hail on the roof, now it's John Coltrane's tenor saxophone.

All of those annoying honking horns from the weddings (98% of the time on Saturday). At this time, the convoys are going to the evening wedding banquet which will last until dawn.
