This is fun! I would LOVE to see so many of the lovely people here on AnyPort that are just in my imagination at the moment ;)

Here is little ol' me in my favourite place - "Leavin' on a jet plane - don't know when I'll be back again......."

Funnily enough mick, that has been said before. I really must try and work on that (or not). Though I did say I'd had a sleepless night (dogs barking) but also I'd just got a letter demanding more tax from the house purchase. It was apparently undervalued in the paperwork.

I wonder how that happened.

Thanks. VEE-keeng, Asterix yeah :) I've heard it. I don't really blend in on the peninsula.

No I have no Italian ancestry I am aware of, the blondeness is I suppose due to a plurality of Danish blood mixed with the usual Anglo-Franco-Germanic N European Heinz 57. There really aren't that many blonde Italians, even up North. Well I should amend that, there are few blonde Italian men even in the Piedmont, there are tons of blonde Italian women even from the South though. Odd how that happens isn't it?

Tourism. I have always had a fascination for this country. It was closed to tourism for more than 20 years - civil war, Soviet occupation, Taliban regime.. When I went the last guide book dated back from 1972. Afghanistan reopened for tourism after the fall of the Taliban regime in November 2001. I think we were'nt more than a hundred from all nationalities to visit the country in 2003. When I called the Afghan embassy in Paris to ask whether they issued visas to tourists the employee told me they did but that it was "extremely rare".
One had to be a little bit adventurous to visit Afghanistan when I went. Today it would be suicidal.

On the photo with the Kalashnikov I'm just taking the pose. The guy in the background who seems to show me something to shoot was speaking to someone else actually. It makes a nice photo however :)

That's so interesting. Only 100 or so to visit the country in 2003? that must have been quite the experience back then. Yep today would be a big 'no' to visiting the country, even if a visa could be issued.

okay here is one of me. The only one I have on my computer. I hate having my photo taken so there isn't many of me at all. This one was taken a year or so ago - it may not stay up too long:

Well Askar, you have to be one dedicated tourist to make that trip. I commend you and your picture projects pride. There can not be many people with that tourist photo. My brother-in-law has a few but he was there working certainly not a tourist.

Deyana, lovely to see you. I am happy that I got the chance to see you!

Bixa, I have tried looking for your picture but cannot find it? Where can I find it?

Cheers Everyone, charmed to see you.
