Things are a bit slow in most Parisian offices in August. Half the staff is on holiday, the phone stops ringing, there's not as much paper on your desk. Well, there's one sort of paper, and France is for some reason the #1 user in the world of "self adhesive note paper" which of course nearly everybody has kleenexed into the generic term "post-it." In office blocks, you are very often across from other offices. You don't know the name of the company, you don't know the name of the people, but often you watch them across the way and you even know a lot of their habits. "Look, she's eating again" or "he's putting away all of his stuff 20 minutes before closing time as usual." And thus the post-it wars began. They were first reported in Montreuil and rapidly spread to La Défense. Now they are all over Paris, and I was noticing quite a few when I went out to lunch today. Here are some photos from Montreuil (not mine). When one office posts an image, the office across the way tries to come back with a better one. Now the battle is raging everywhere... until the boss gets back from the Maldives. La Défense I'll see if I can capture some of my own in the coming days -- forgot my camera today!

Thanks for showing us some "staff amusement" Kerouac! All I can add to the wonderful creations is that I'm glad it's not my staff as those little Post It stickers cost an arm and leg here. I use them quite a lot for marking stock in a certain way. We even try and use them twice but that does not always work. We don't get red or dark blue but mostly those pale colours.

What made it spread like wildfire over the past two weeks is because obviously there was a report about it on the evening news recently.

Wow ~~ what Tod said about those itsy pads of paper being so expensive is true in the US, too. Guess it makes a nice change from taking pens home. The pictures made with post-its are clever.

Near my office, I found a post-it battle in full swing on both sides of rue Pierre Charron.
