I've been reading several expat and retirement fora lately, and I want to express my appreciation to APIAS for being "badge free"; that is, no gimmick awards, such as "Senior Dingbat", stars, gold bars and all those useless bells and whistles.

Also, for being relatively free of long winded (I'll finish momentarily, just hold on a moment) posts about trivia, and above all, for providing a space for relatively civilized discourse.

Of course, I could be mistaken. ;D

For example; today I started to read a thread on the http://www.expatforum.com/expats/mexico-expat-forum-expats-living-mexico/ that ran to 4 or so pages, discussing the meaning of the green bars next to participants names. (It's some sort of ranking system, I think.) I gave up after the first page or so.

There's a new poster on Mexconnect.com forums who's causing me to grind my teeth, asking questions that have been discussed many times over the years, (Origin of the word "Gringo"?); or, the more novel, "were tacos invented in the silver mines?" Upon getting answers, he often changes the subject.

I have learned to remain silent.

Well, to be fair, the Expat Forum does cover a number of countries under its wings.
