I like them a lot.

My try Aloo Gobi though, which is similar but with cauliflower.

Happy ~~ a question about the bizarre Australian custom of putting beets on burgers:
Are they at least pickled beets?
Don't they have wonderful pickled cucumbers in Switzerland? Try to get him to eat an American-style burger, with mustard and pickles & perhaps a little mayonnaise. Finding good cheese in Switzerland to put on his burger shouldn't be a problem.

Uhm... to be quite honest, I am not sure but I think it is supposed to be fresh beetroot. I don't know because I really hate beetroot, pickled or not. Eugh !

Smoked gammon with green french beans (I see they were grown in Egypt by El Aguizy)...

Leftover cassoulet, fresh greens from the garden(arugula, mustard, turnip, buttercrunch lettuce),satsumas, tamari vinaigrette

Someting very simple tonight - a sort of sformato or crustless quiche with thin slices of sweet potato, egg, grated crotonese (hard ewe's milk cheese), and minced onion. It is very cold today in Montréal and I had a lot of work today, so I didn't go out and get the onions I'd normally have put in.

Oh dear, casimira, do wish I had fresh local greens now, but it is not to be.

Very nice crusty bread roll, bit of white wine.

Lagatta, welcome to our butter yellow ship! Your meal is sooo tempting. Alas, I have to finish swabbing the upper deck before nibbling a crumb. At least the Ocean breezes cool me as I swab and swab. 'They' promised there will be leftovers in the galley for me. ???

Enjoy your hardtack, Jazz! Where are you in Canada?

And benvenuto, La Gatta!
Posted by jazz on Feb 6, 2009, 5:50am
Aha.... the hidden cache of wine! ...I'm lying on the lounge chair of the upper deck, sipping a rich burgandy and looking at the beautiful night sky.

I live in Toronto, fondly known as 'hogtown'.

What a disconcerting name for what is by all accounts a vibrant city.

re: OP ~~ I made a big salad. I'd run out of everything and craved fresh. Since today was market day, I had lots of produce. I was slicing up a poblano pepper -- they've been like bell peppers for months -- & idly munched on a piece. Holy hahas it was hot!
Posted by lagatta on Feb 6, 2009, 1:14pm
Grazie. It is a bit less cold today - we anticipate a big melt on Saturday - so I'll be going out to get so-called "fresh" salad, though it is nothing like the truly fresh stuff we get during la belle saison at the Jean-Talon Market.

It is a pretty ship - looks like a big cheese with green streaks - would that be a Stilton?

Jazz, I've been reading your Paris stories (I have yours' and Kerouac's offline in a word file on travel) but haven't weighed in yet.

The weather is perfect here for enjoying a spicy veggie curry. Snow outside and a poor forecast? Who cares?

Contents will be baby potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, onion and loads of garbonzas. I may make another snowman after dinner.

edited because BigIain rarely uses the spellchecker first time out.

I am very uninspired for dinner tonight.

Posted by BigIain on Feb 6, 2009, 2:22pm
Well why not come round here tonight, I need to try out Repertoire's smooth lines on someone anyway? I think that they, along with lekkerding, will prove irresistable!

Obviously it would be like a controlled scientific experiment.

See you at 7?

Jy is 'n oulike ding!
Posted by kerouac2 on Feb 6, 2009, 2:48pm
I'm feeling so uninspired that I might buy a package of.....[image]

7 is fine, remember to pick up some poor quality red wine on the way. Anything from South Africa should fit that description. And bring desert too...
Posted by palesa on Feb 6, 2009, 2:51pm
I will ignore the wine comment.

Will we need desert?
Posted by kerouac2 on Feb 6, 2009, 2:54pm
Don't you have to cross the Kalahari to get to Iain's place?
Posted by BigIain on Feb 6, 2009, 2:58pm
*aint no mountain high enough*
Posted by BigIain on Feb 6, 2009, 3:09pm
Palesa, There is always room for dessert. Make it cheesecake. There is a serious snowman to be made if you are still feeling energetic after dinner. I will supervise obviously.
Posted by palesa on Feb 6, 2009, 3:23pm
Do I get to throw snowballs at you?
Posted by BigIain on Feb 6, 2009, 3:28pm
If you feel lucky, do you feel lucky? Make my day.

Anyway, since you are sadly not able to travel here for dinner, and I am saving myself for another girl, what are you going to have tonight. must be almost dinner time with you?
Posted by palesa on Feb 6, 2009, 3:40pm
Pizza has drawn the short straw.
Posted by BigIain on Feb 6, 2009, 5:44pm
Poor Zonker. I bet he would like more than merely pizza on a Friday night. Perhaps he enjoys dessert so much that he does not complain about the food?

Zonker, if you are listening, you need a firm hand with this one my friend!!
Posted by palesa on Feb 6, 2009, 5:47pm
Zonker would love pizza 8 days a week, and if he plays his cards right, I am sure he could get some desert. ;)
Posted by tillystar on Feb 6, 2009, 5:58pm
Pasta with tuna and olives here, I could do a pizza though :P
Posted by auntieannie on Feb 6, 2009, 7:18pm
