What's everyone using these days? I've been using Photobucket but it seems to have really slowed down lately (upload speed). Anyone else notice this? I took a look at tinypic which I use occasionally for single images and the speed is better but it's not obvious to me how to upload multiple images...

I like tinypic for single images, too. Their multiple uploader is pathetic, though. You have to be logged on to the site, then click on Your Home. Once you do that, look over on the far right, underneath the screen size menu. You'll see Upload More, followed by a little blue circle with a + in it. Click on that, & you'll get a tier of five browse slots. Trouble is, you can't hold down Ctrl as you can with Photobucket. You browse, select, then must browse again. I think once you use up those five slots, you're given the option to add more, but  Photobucket periodically turns to crap, I've noticed, then comes back better than ever. Having dealt with them in a lengthy and unsatisfactory process, my feeling is that when enough angry peasants with pitchforks and flaming brands surround the Photobucket castle, some technical improvements will be made. |

I use Photobucket and don't have a problem with them as to speed.

There is also a bulk uploader facility that you can select a folder full of photos and it will load them all whilst you go off and do other things instead of having to do the Ctrl thing.

Since I am slowly uploading a shitload of pictures (shhhhh!) on Photobucket, I was thinking, "hey I'll post something using ImageShack while I'm waiting" -- well it came in HUGE (reduced by 80% when ProBoards resized it) and I couldn't figure out how to modify it, so I deleted it.
Must learn how to use Tinypic.

Yes, thanks, Mark ~~ I know that & use it frequently. However, if you want to upload four or five pics from your computer that are not in a folder, the Ctrl thing is great. Okay, I have been researching photo hosting sites with bulk uploaders. Stay away from ImageBulk, despite its promising name. I had to join to find out its flaws. It allows you to upload two (2) pics at a time, in the same fiddly browse format as tinypic's. I did not join this one, but present its info page here: www.adoramapix.com/AccountChoice.aspxMy reason for rejecting it is that it offers prints, meaning one can anticipate lots of advertising emails from them in the future. Also, I'm not sure about their "long-term" storage, which appears to have a 60 day limit. Finally, it appears that only premium accounts can load entire folders. THEN I found this jewel: www.keepandshare.comThis is the only photo site I've encountered that did not lazily decide that they were "intuitive". There are directions and tutorials galore. The only thing I saw that wasn't completely clear was about size. Having checked, I can report that they'll host anything up to 1800 px. However, anything up to that size is hosted in the size it is on your computer. So, for pictures to be posted on anyport, you would want to resize them before loading on Keep&Share. However, it's the loading process that will have everyone falling in love with the service. A page opens with a large white space. To the left of that is a menu with every one of the photo folders & photo sub-folders on your computer. Above the white space is a scrollable area with all of your photo folders followed by every one of your individual pictures in alphabetical order. You simply drag and drop. The uploading process is quite speedy. You will have to install something, but it's quick & with a reliable signature. I definitely recommend signing up with this service, either as your preferred hosting site or to have in reserve for when Photobucket is balky. I already prefer it to Photobucket. Oh yeah -- because of the way the bulk uploader is integrated with the individual uploader, you can set that page into your bookmarks toolbar for super-quick access to uploading. I am pleased! |

Nice... but on my screen at least, the URL the site provides me for my images is too long to fit in the anyport textbox without wrapping - in which case the ![]() command doesn't work... |

The keepandshare site seems to work OK. Their "medium" size option seems to shrink full-size photos to a nice size for posting here (see above), and given that the limit appears to be on number of images hosted free rather than total data quantity it hardly seems worth resizing them before uploading.
Trying to get a working image URL for posting (e.g. a direct link ending in ".jpg") seems to be something they only divulge with extreme reluctance though.

I clicked on the "what to do now" in Photo Application, but I'll be damned if I know what they're talking about. www.keepandshare.com/htm/help/photo.php#answer22Then I tried to view a photo full size, and was told: Only a paid account can view more than one photo at full size. There's a place to click for details, which takes you here: www.keepandshare.com/business/membership_details.php?emp=photo  You can view a picture in Large and click on "download this photo" underneath it, then copy the url that will show in that window. You could also right-click on the Large photo to get the url from Image Info (FF) or Properties (IE). None of that is satisfactory, however. I feel I have sold you a pig in a poke. |

No matter - seems I've been an idiot anyway. I've now learned to use the Photobucket "bulk uploader" - the speed is more than acceptable. Thanks (maybe even want to delete this thread now... )

Oh ~~ we posted at the same time, Fumobici. That is indeed a great size for posting here. Do check that second link I posted in #9, though. That daily bandwidth capacity might limit hosting the pics w/out resizing first. Testing the 'medium' url supplied by Keep&Share. Yes, it is quite long.  AHA! Imec, I see why it won't work. This is the url they supply: http://www.keepandshare.com/userpics/b/i/x/a/_orellana/2010-06/sm/march_24_2009_cactus_002-96941268.jpg?ts=1276539915 Note that it does not end in jpg. What you have to do is delete everything that comes after the jpg in the url before using it here. This is all kind of a pain, isn't it? |

 Hmmm, OK. To get the pukka URL you must first create an album, place your images within it then access the images by first viewing the entire album and then viewing the photo you want to upload. The URL will be in a little grey box below the photo. Not sure why they didn't want to make the process simpler. |

You don't need to go through the step of creating an album. Click on "Edit" above individual pictures and you'll be taken to a page displaying urls for the three sizes. However, you still have to go through that step of snipping off the end after jpg.

I tried that once and found no joy, probably hashed it though. The method I describe will net you the actual photo URL without the post-production.

I like flickr and have just opened a second free account. I've also found this: imgur.com/It's got some nifty features, might start using it. I also use Imageshack but the pictures look so crappy once uploaded I dislike it now. |

Just looked good because apparently you can just right click on images and save them to that account.
Imageshack has a bulk uploader, so does flickr. The drawback with Imageshack is that the pics turn out shitty and flickr has limits. A limit on the total uploads and also a 100mb limit on monthly uploads.

Do NOT try out Pict.com! It suddenly opened in a different format for me and announced that my "free trial" would expire on July 10. Huh? I was not told it was a trial membership when I signed up. Bah!
