I'm not a Connie Francis fan, since I find her so nasal. But when I saw your reference to her on Changing the Station, I looked her up for old times sake. (& because I knew @ how old I was, thus how old you were, when the song hit the airwaves)
Anyway, now I have "You Are My Special Angel" stuck in my head. It was part of a homage mix to her. Here ~~ let me share!
I sometimes wake up in the morning with one line of a song going continually through my head.........the first cup of coffee usually fixes it though...........
I don't even know what triggers my earworms, as almost always they're not songs I've heard recently. I think there's an old Wurlitzer or Seeburg stuck in my head and occasionally something rolls off one of the shelves up in there, bounces across the floor, hits the jukebox and makes a record come down.
Crap. I wrote that and now have this stuck in my head:
Just now I was sitting here, minding my own business and doing a jigsaw puzzle, when suddenly, there in my brain was the full version -- instruments, back-up, falsetto, etc. of:
I have one of the worst ever prefab europop summer hits playing in the depths of my brain. Luckily I do not have access to YouTube at the office, so you will temporarily be spared "Vamos a la Playa" by some Dutch bimbo who calls herself Loona (but whose real name is Marie-Jose van der Kolk, so you can understand why she changed her name).
Specially for HW, in its full ear worming horror....
And for everybody's karaoke enjoyment:
Vamos a la playa A mí me gusta bailar El ritmo de la noche Sounds of fiesta (x2) You Know we go Where the feeling is right You know we go Where the groove is hot You know we go Where the feeling is right, feeling is right, feeling is right.
Vamos a la playa. A mí me gusta bailar El ritmo de la noche Sounds of fiesta(x2)

So, your post made me sing "me and mrs., mrs. jones" to myself a couple of times. Then I got this earworm instead -- fortunately a song I really like ~~
I read that piece when you first posted it Kerouac and forget to reply. Anyway,I did not agree with what it said,or,rather,it did not apply to my experience with earworms. Interesting though.
I unfortunately let myself listen to an interview with Doris Day on NPR on the occassion of her 88th birthday. They played Que Sera Sera,(one of her big hits, which she stated that she hated) now it's stuck . I refuse to inflict it on anyone else.
Saturday evening I was in the kitchen, cooking and minding my own business. Unbidden to my empty little head came "The Rivers of Babylon" & wouldn't go away.
Sunday morning I got on a bus and as soon as I sat down "The Rivers of Babylon" started playing. I sang along.
