I was leafing through a magazine and saw a picture of the young Kahlil Gibran. My first thought was ~~

Talk about synchronicity!!! I was walking on the beach this morning,saw someone who was a dead ringer for Jimmy Buffet,(might have been..). Anyway,thought of a new topic for a thread in here,was going for Doppelgangers but,here we are!!!
The guy saw me taking pictures,of the surf,and asked me if I would like him to take my picture against the surf (very rough seas today),at first I demured,then let him....I felt too weird asking him if I could take a pic of him with my camera...  I didn't really want one anyway...  |

This is a bit off topic, so I hope that I will be forgiven, but I was fascinated the other day to finally see the cast of the upcoming film by the Brazilian director Walter Salles "On the Road." He has been working on the project for 6 years and finally got (French) financing, so the project is on.
The cast was brought to Montréal in July to start interacting and to get to know each other. Shooting started on September 7th. They are not necessarily dead ringers for the original people, but I think that the casting was a pretty good job.

Sam Riley is not a close match looks-wise, and he's English. However, someone must know that he has something to bring to the role. He has a good face for an actor, in the sense that it's bland enough to be able to assume other characters. I think he looks more Kerouac-y here:

That's another aspect of playing a look-alike game -- who would you cast as such&such a historical figure.
I always thought Paul Simon would have been great as Picasso.

I've always thought that the actor should have at least a reasonable resemblance to the famous person he or she is playing.
The worst one I've seen so far (that I can remember  ) is Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII in The Tudors. I watched about half of the very first episode but then had to throw in the towel. |

Hee hee ~~ some of them are really funny.
I don't want to look at the site too closely, because I still want to see how many look-alikes I can find on my own. I'm particularly proud of the first one in #6 and of #7.
Modified to immodestly add that #1 is pretty damned good, too. |

Get ready for some forehead slapping!
1st person in #11 is Guy Pearce, who played the Duke of Windsor in The King's Speech.
1st person in #10 is Kelsey Grammar, most well-known for the character of Frasier.
The first two people in #7 are both F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I can slap my forehead all I want, but it will certainly not tell me who is Rob Morrow or what is Northern Exposure. I don't think I have ever seen a photo of F. Scott Fitzgerald in my life, but I will certainly slap my forehead if you want me to. I didn't know they still had all of these things in your beauty shop magazines.  |

Re: Northern Exposure -- I was under the impression that you got all the major US tv programs in France. No?
It ran from '90 -- '95, & was pretty good stuff for its day, although wore out its welcome, as sitcoms do.

A lot of the stuff is indeed shown, but that doesn't mean that I ever see a lot of it. Besides a lot of the French stuff that I like, I also watch German, Italian, British, Canadian, Israeli and Australian series quite a bit. Can't see everything that is on the air!
I can claim that I have heard of the title "Northern Exposure" before, but I don't have the slightest idea what it is about or if it was ever shown in France. |
