Sciatic Nerve Pain

I am feeling very sorry for myself with this incredible pain running from my back - across my hip and down the front of my leg. It came right out of the blue. The pharmacist said I could do no more than what I was taking in the form of anti-inflams and painkillers and recommended I go and see the Doc for a cortisone and voltaren injection. (Didn't get Voltaren but something else?).
I did that on Tuesday and walked out of there feeling much better until late in the evening when the pain started coming back.
Today it is so bad I can only lie down on the opposite hip and leg.

Luckily I had a repeat script for a nerve pain tablet which the chemist will be sending over this afternoon. How come I'm typing this sitting in my office chair....? I'm drugged to the eyeballs with muscle relaxant and all the other stuff!

Going to lie down now.

That's another condition that I've heard about all my life but have been lucky enough not to experience.... yet. I have almost never even had a backache, but I nevertheless have had two or three over the years, which is enough for me to imagine the horror of such pain stretching across other parts of my body.

I hope it goes away quickly, tod2.

yes, not much else to do than let the muscle relaxants do their job. Sitting really is NOT a good position when suffering back pains and problems. Upright or horizontal are the best positions. Hoping it goes quickly.

The pain has eased considerably during the day - nights are not as bad. Maybe the last 6 injections of Voltaren and Neurobian are kicking in. What has taken the place of severe pain is a burning sensation on my skin where the sciatic nerve runs. Also a kind of numb tingling is felt when I walk.
I put this down to the nerve either dying or trying to re-generate. Either way I feel my condition is getting better.

I sat bolt upright in bed this morning when I was watching SKY News - a report came on about Diclofenac. I knew I had seen the name before so rushed over to my 10 story medicine cabinet (lol) and YES! there it was printed on the silvery foil of my Cataflam tablets. Oh horror of horror's!
This ingredient is supposed to enhamce heart attacks and I have been swallowing them day and night for weeks! Oh, well maybe the panic is over because I'm stil here........

The burning nerve pain is easing and I am now applying a cream with an anaesthetic (guess?) which helps a lot.

I've taken diclofenac for my back, as has OH...and we have shedloads of the stuff.....ooer....

Well you will be glad to hear I have completely got over the sciatica! It took some doing but I persevered with anti-inflams and a zillion pain tablets, plus all that VitBcomplex. Slowly, very very slowly, it started to abate. The skin on my upper leg was like having a severe rash or sunburn as every nerve ending was painful. I suppose like Shingles in a way.
All cleared up now but I absolutely dread something like that happening again when away from home.
I think it may be prudent to have some back Xrays of my lower spine to see what is amiss.

My husband had sciatic nerve distress about 8 years ago which finally resulted in a Neurosurgeon finding through an MRI that there was a disc damaged and pushing on the nerve. When she went in to do the surgery she found broken cartilage, removed it and shaved the disc.

However, he is again feeling the same pains again and I am sure that something similar is occurring. He is not allowed to take calcium because his urine retains it and has caused painful kidney stone problems to the point of having them blasted by being submerged in a tank of water and then the stone is targeted with ultrasound and broken up. I mention all of this because I think the lack of calcium has caused his difficulties in his spine, along with carrying his pack on his back all these years at work.

Perhaps this VitBcomplex could help him?

Mich - I don't know about VitB Complex tablets. The Vit B treatment I had/and still have regularly is the injection. It is a specific one which contains a high voltage shot of all the B's and is called NEUROBIN or sometimes NEUROBIAN. It must be injected into your muscle just above the buttocks.
I refer to the area as my 'rump steak"! Not quite the hip and not as far down as the seat of you bum.
It stings for about 5 seconds and this is what MEN find so off-putting about the jab ;D Us gals can take all that painful stuff.....

The point is that VitB rebuilds nerve damage very fast so as the nerve is being pinched it can at the same time start to regenerate. Well it looks as if mine has. Once before I could not lift my arm and the injections sorted that as well.
