Lisa Kudrow was good in the movie The Opposite of Sex, which starred Christina Ricci.

Yes, that's the movie in which I thought Lisa Kudrow was excellent. I'm glad you came up with the title, though, because I couldn't have done so if my life depended on it.

Yes, he, Arnold S. and Robert R. should have a contest to see who best imitates a log.

Mrs. FMT likes Robert R. But then again, she's only seen him dubbed in French. She wants me to mention her fondness for him stems from the fact that one of her favorites movies is The Chase. She says the co-star in this movie was Jane Fonda........who can not act.

But The Chase was an excellent movie.

I have indeed noticed over the years that certain Hollywood stars are far more tolerable in their dubbed versions instead of hearing their real voices. I am often horrified when I finally see some of the American TV series in their original versions.

She laughed hysterically the first time she heard Sylvester Stallone speak. She realized why they always gave him a stupid accent when dubbed in French.

I was floored by the whiny nasal voice of "Lily Rush" in Cold Case the first time I heard it in English. In French, her voice is quite sexy, even if that doesn't stop me from wanting to scrape off all of that lipstick with a Brillo pad.

~?~ I'm not a Stallone fan, but aside from his poor enunciation, I don't find anything wrong with his voice.

It may be a matter of what one is used to. If you only ever heard an actor dubbed, wouldn't his real voice sound "wrong"? I know someone here -- a non-English speaker -- who claims the Simpsons are much better dubbed because that's how they really should sound. Again, ~?~

I think everybody here who has watched the Simpsons has agreed that the dubbing is perfect. I know that the French dubbing corresponds perfectly to the American dubbing. (It should never be forgotten that ALL cartoons are dubbed and that there is no authentic "original language.")

The Simpsons do sound good in Spanish, because voices were found that were close matches to the American originals.

However, there is an authentic original language for cartoons, because those actors & their voices were deliberately chosen as part of the original whole.

Bixa - Maybe I didn't make myself clear but what amazed Mrs. FMT was that his real voice is actually exactly the same as his French dubbed voice, which she had always believed was such an over the top caricature of a macho, high testosterone filled voice.

Usually the big name movie stars have the same person dubbing the voices all the time and they always do a great job of finding someone with a voice that matches. However, TV series can often be very different from the original voices.

The Simpsons do sound the same in French as their American counterparts. My French is still so poor, however, that I can't understand what the French Simpsons are saying.

I would agree Sylvester Stalone...mostly because I can't understand a word he says.

Nicholas Cage...I just find it hard to believe in his characters....

Colin Farrell....Alexander must be one of the worst films ever made...99.9% down to his portarayal of the main character.

Jeff Goldblum...but I love him anyway....

Lots of British tv actors that most of you will never have heard of...(think yourselves lucky)

All of the above are probably very good actors in films that I haven't seen...I'm sure that they're all terribly nice people...kind to animals and small children etc... ;D

That's really funny, Fmt! No, I didn't understand what you meant at first.

Cheery:

I imagine if I weren't American, I would have a hard time understanding Stallone.

I think Nicholas Cage could act at one time, but he was dropped on his head or something.

Never saw Alexander. I kind of like Colin Farrell.

Last night I watched The Opposite of Sex. Dunno. It wasn't a terrible movie, but only because the actors in it were good, even Lyle Lovett, who really & truly is not an actor. It was pretty much a waste of talent, though.

Oh no! I didn't say it was a waste of time. I was probably too hasty in calling it a waste of talent, since I watched it all the way through and really enjoyed all the performances and paid attention to the plot. I guess I just expected an overall richer movie.

I'm not sure who all those people are, but agree with you to a point on many of them.

I don't think Michael Douglas can act, but I'm not really sure, since there is something about the man that makes it hard for me to even look at him.

Seth Rogen is in movies that I don't care to see, although Wikipedia tells me he was the voice of Master Mantis in Kung Fu Panda, which I did like.

Except for Nacho Libre, I pretty much can't bear Jack Black.

I haven't seen that many Tom Cruise movies, but thought he acquitted himself well in those I've seen. Rain Man is one of my all-time favorite movies.

A few of those people, such as Jennifer Anniston, might be good if they had different managers, directors, vehicles, etc.

Demi Moore's appeal completely escapes me.

I quite like Julia Roberts.

There are many so-called actors around who exist because they "look the part" and can simply be plugged into movies to play a certain type over and over. Vince Vaughn seems to belong in that category.

I haven't seen most of those people in movies either.

One I have seen and would have to be dragged to the movie theater and chloroformed to sit through is Adam Sandler. Geez -- what a crappy " actor". I saw something called Punchdrunk Love which had glowing reviews at an independent/art house cinema here. I stayed because I kept thinking it would improve, but what a piece of shit that was. And he did not improve it.

I don't mind Julia Roberts either.

There is something about Adam Sandler that I understand, but I'm not sure what.

I clearly have been infected by that disease that has caused the last 8 Adam Sandler movies to gross more than $100 million each even though the critics shot them down in flames.

I suspect that is has something to do with the creepy friend that most of us defended (a little bit) even though everybody else hated him/her. You weren't sure exactly what you were defending but you hated the incapacity of others to pinpoint what disturbed them.

He sort of strikes me as the friend that we all made excuses for to our other friends, because they were just blind to the qualities of the person, we felt a bit superior for having found something redeeming.

Of course that works only for Adam Sandler and would never work for worthless people like Vince Vaughn or Jack Black. ;D
