I love Nina Simone, but I have neglected her too long! I am gonna listen to her all day now!
This song is one of my long time favorites. It reminds me of dancing in a field at a festival as the sun came up with Mr Star when we first got together.
French television used a snippet of it as the theme music of last year's Tour de France. Watching fabulous aerial shots of cyclists speeding through spectacular mountain scenery with the refrain "when I ruled the world" sent shivers down my spine every day, especially when you think of the rest of the song and how ephemeral that glory is.
Boy, someone at French tv has a great sensibility!
Deyana ~~ yaaaaay for La Bamba. That is one of my all-time favorites. There are a few songs that give you the same sense of excitement every time you hear them -- La Bamba is definitely one. It's a truly great get-up-&-dance number!
Camera Obscura ~~ nice! It would work well in the "pleasant light pop" category, too. I guess I'm really turning into an Old Person, as to me, the the Neko Case one just sounds like so much other stuff. I'm still waiting for Morrissey to really grab me. I can hear the talent in the lyrics, but there's something about that sort of swoop transition in the music that seems more lazy than stylistic, if that makes sense. Youtube won't let me see the Dylan one because I'm in Mexico.
By the way, if I haven't posted this already, this is a great site for finding nice, clear audios. Frequently you can find stuff that's not on youtube, too.

When you're chewing on life's gristle Don't grumble, give a whistle And this'll help things turn out for the best... And...always look on the bright side of life... Always look on the light side of life. Monty Python's Life of Brian
