In honor of the day,post your favorite annoying love song. I think that FEELINGS (which I heard a version of by the Welsh Men's Choir early this a.m.) has got to be mine.

Feelings is an unbearable song, but there is an interesting story behind it.
It was written in 1956 by Louis Gasté and is actually a French song called "Pour Toi". It was not a hit for the person from whom it was written. So it was released again in a version by Louis Gasté's wife Line Renaud... and it still was not a hit. Nevertheless, about 10 versions of "Pour Toi" ended up being recorded in various countries.
In 1974, the English version "Feelings" was recorded for the first time by Morris Albert, but the song "Feelings" was copyrighted in Sao Paolo, Brazil. In 1975, the Israeli singer Mike Brant recorded a new French version which was a top hit in France under the title "Dis-lui."
But it was in 1976 that "Feelings" became a worldwide hit with more than 500 versions recorded all over the world. Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley both recorded it.
In 1977, Louis Gasté took legal action on the plagiarism (learning at the same time that it was a former Brazilian business associate of his who had made the Brazilian copyright). Morris Albert had to be tracked down before the plagiarism case could be filed, and the case finally began in 1981. It took until 1988 for Louis Gasté to win the case, and at least he lived long enough to see victory, because he died in 1995.
Most of you know another French song written by Louis Gasté: "How Much is that Doggie in the Window?"
Nevertheless, "Feelings" remains a totally unbearable song.

The link & this list are reminding me of yucky songs better left forgotten.
No one has mentioned "Color My World" by Chicago -- a song that would win in more than one category -- longest, most irritating intro for one.
"Every Breath You Take" reminds me of another song that's equally creepy. Although I totally love Aaron Neville, I can't even listen to his "Over You", the psycho killer stalker song of all time.

I think I could like the song, but when I pay attention to the lyrics, it disturbs me. So she obviously loves him and is going to miss him. But he didn't want to be with her, so she set him free. But still, she'll wait forever and be there for him if he ever decides he wants to be with her again.
I just want to yell, "Get over him! Move on with your life!" How is she ever going to find someone new if she's willing to climb mountains to run back to Mr Loser the second he changes his mind?

Have you ever seen this version of "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt? It's the only song I can think of that includes the word "hypotenuse"...

The English language does not have a monopoly on ultra annoying love songs. (Who knows? This might sound new and interesting to you, but wait until you've heard it 400 times.)

I have a vivid recall of the day I started this OP. It was reignited this a.m. as the radio played some especially annoying "love songs","Feelings" being one of them.

I came here to post something about that very same unbearable song but probably unbearable simply because it was too big of a hit. If any of us had heard it just once in a nightclub or something, we would have almost certainly been blown away by it. But with excess repetition, it turned into a parody.

Cheery, as far as I remember Dolly's version is the original. You're too young to remember the series of adverts for Birds Eye(?) with the young boy and girl growing up where the boy eventually has to emigrate with his parents to AUS(?) and that was the song playing them out.

Late 70's. But I've just been trying to find it on Youtube and I can't. I can only find the one when he comes back with another Dolly Parton song. Maybe my memory is failing me as I can find one where he leaves (Ben) but it hasn't got that song on it. I might be mistaken then but I know she sung it way before Ms Houston.

Cheery - update if you're interested - I emailed Birds Eye as regards this as it was bugging me and after several passing ons to different departments I've had a reply from a nice woman in the archives. She says -
"Hello Mark, The goodbye Ben and Mary adverts (the two attached in one file) were the last broadcast and followed on from the return from Australia advert. You are right they do include the Dolly Parton Song 'I will always love you'. Please can you use the clips as a viewing copy for personal use only as any duplication or use on the web would have to be agreed and licensed by Bird's Eye.

As stated she's sent me the adverts that were shown but obviously I can't put them on here. So, that settles it then, the memory is still as sharp as ever.

We deprived children in the US did not have those Bird's Eye commercials. But speaking of Ben, what about the Michael Jackson love song to the rat? It's annoying enough to send me scurrying to the baseboards.
