Three Little Birds -- Playing for Change
Posted by bixaorellana on Nov 23, 2011, 7:21am
Baaba Maal ~~ what a voice, what a delivery!

Love Three Little Birds, Love Keb' Mo' (love looking at Keb' Mo'), love Playing for Change.

This one was really exceptional. Thanks, Lola.

Just listened to this this a.m. and reminded of how much I really adore this band and this song in particular among many others.

The Midnight Sun -- Al Jarreau

Posted by casimira on Dec 12, 2011, 10:53am
Thanks good people.
Lola,I love that Jarreau!! He also does a rendition of New York State of Mind that is one of my favs although, it does make me terribly homesick for NYC when I do listen to it.

I'll look for Jarreau's NY State, casimira; isn't in the usual places. Alicia Keys' is nice, though.

I find this Hallelujah by Alaskan villagers moving.

:-* ~~ to you as well, Lola.

This song is so good when it's done well. I just discovered this version:

(although will anything ever measure up to this?)

They won't let us US residents listen to that one, Bixa. Pretty hard to beat Mr. Green's.

Well, this will just fix their little red wagons ~~

Yes, the Alan Parsons Project came out with a lot of stuff that was used elsewhere but which sticks with us the moment we hear it.

My sacred song!

Yeah, he got that yearning into it that's so essential to this particular song.

I dearly love this version, too, along with Eva Cassidy's ~~

It really is a wonderful song as you say (and I still like the Judy Garland version and it is my favourite film ever) but just as a guitar instrumental was so unusual and so beautifully played.

I have no sound in the office so can't listen to it I'm afraid....

Lots of good favorites since I've been able to listen. Thank you all.

I am just now seeing this post.
I had the most wonderful, magical experience and privilege of getting to hear JB do this LIVE exactly 2 years ago here at the N. O. Jazz Fest. I still get goose bumps when I hear it,and tears in my eyes....
What a moment.
Thanks for the memory.
(The whole CD that it is off of is fabulous btw,Emotion and Commotion)
