Who knows what attracts some of us to the big city? Could it be that we are moths drawn to the neon lights (and of course, more and more often, LED's)? All of these are within one block of my apartment. But the #1 users of neon at the moment are the telephone & internet shops for the African community. They are absolutely everywhere with more opening every day.

Oh gosh, Kerouac ~~ I adore neon! I would love to go to Las Vegas and rubberneck along the Strip. Thanks for the fabulous pictures and the great idea. This is an inspiration!

Downtown Las Vegas has far more classic neon then the strip, the really old cool stuff from the '40's. If indeed it's still there. I think komosol posted about it once on here somewhere.

Long after Crime Story went into re-runs, I would scamper into the tv room when I heard its opening theme, because I never, ever tire of seeing these credits:
Incidentally, I know this is Image Bank and am already planning where I'll go to get snaps of neon. However, where I live doesn't even have lighted signs, so it won't be right away. I know of at last one piece of church neon, though.

I went through the red light district today and snapped a few signs, but of course neon during the day doesn't have the same effect as neon at night (they're still sitting in my camera somewhere anyway).

Actually, you might wind up with some great moody stuff, especially considering the venue.

I thihnk that stardust sign is my favortie too and I love the girl with the heat on her face. Paris seems a lot moe neon than London, or maybe I haven't noticed. Will have to keep my eyes peeled after dark...

#23 must be advertising shawarma, right? Clever as all get-out!
The second one is a great piece of design, too.

No, #23 is the traditional symbol for a tobacconist.

Here is both a neon and a menu board from a deli right around the corner from our house. The business is an honest to god butcher, which is very rare here in Tucson. (plus I just realized I have a pretty good reflection too )

I would love to contribute to this thread, but I rarely get out at night, and almost never with a camera. Sigh.
We did host an art exhibit at the Missoula Art Museum by a neon artist, a few years back. And the docents were treated to a visit to a neon sign making shop to see how they do it.
