Your NYC ones, Casimira, remind me of the first time I drove in the city, late on a Sunday night, headed from DC to Hartsdale. I had directions from an old native, who told me "go from Holland Tunnel across town to the FDR" and then a series of old highway names or nicknames that don't show up on exit signs. His mental map predated the interstate system by years.

It was fun finding my way across downtown and up the FDR, but less fun after that following my nose.

I still refer to highways and bridges by the names I became familiar with initially. It drives me crazy when they change the names. I don't have anything against RFK but,the Triboro Bridge seemed a perfectly fine name to me and also a cool description of a bridge that indeed connects 3 burroughs. :-/
They went through a major changing of thoroughfare names here in NOLA and my husband while working for EMS as a Paramedic would get so outdone because in many cases it was a matter of life and death trying to find someone lying there on a newly christened street.
