I missed seeing Kimby's exceptionally good picture before. There's something about that faded border of green, plus the homely incidental details, such as the bike on the porch, that really make this a satisfying photo.

That Evian sign has the bizarre quality of making itself seem real and the building seem fake!

Thanks bixa.

Did you notice the faces on the parapets (if that's the right word)?

Yes! Are they masks, or are they faces? Either way, what are they doing up there?

I don't know. I didn't see them myself, until I took a closer look for the "green border" bixa mentioned, which I also hadn't seen. ;-)

This is a shop now...but my Dad says that he remembers it as a cinema in the 1930s...The Electric Theatre no less...

um....it's just another fancy bit of the building. Leicester has loads of old buildings that were originally built for one purpose and then ended up being taken over and converted to shops, offices and homes...lately a lot of old factories have been turned into luxury appartments (that nobody can afford to buy...)

It's the same on the continent, often with quirky results.

I love the last two examples.

This is one of those threads that really opened my eyes to things around me that had gone unnoticed before.

If you look closely, you can see that it is actually a stretched canvas in front of the wall.

This image was shown in an exhibit at our local art museum recently. Not MY photo, however, a black and white image captured by a professional using an 8x10 view camera. But I was quite pleased to see that my eye had appreciated what a pro found worthy of photgraphing...

I don't know that any pro could top your picture, Kimby. It has so many points of interest, including composition, color, shading, and great details.

This wall is around the corner from my house. Last night I asked my next-door neighbor, whose property it is, what the story was on it. She sighed and said that it "no dio frutas" -- it didn't bear fruit.

This shows a combination of two classics -- Savon Cadum and Dubonnet, one overlaid on the other.
