Wow, that is lovely!
Posted by kerouac2 on Feb 8, 2012, 6:31pm
I like the feathery light quality of the tree, but I might curse it if it did not provide enough shade under the hot sun.

What is it bixa? It's not a Jacaranda is it?
Hard to tell, but is the flower the same one on the Botanical Perspectives thread?
Posted by kerouac2 on Feb 20, 2012, 6:30pm
My first thought was a jacaranda when I saw the photo.
Posted by bixaorellana on Feb 20, 2012, 7:12pm
It's not a jacaranda -- the flowers are bigger. I'll try to find out. I passed that same tree yesterday & the flowers are now much pinker.

What could have shocked this tree so much as to make its hair stand on end?

Oh wow, I'd be shocked too, if that happened to me. :o

Whoa! Now that is an aberration!

That poor tree must have been confined in a narrow collar for years (decades?) expanding above the collar, and THEN someone decapitated it, causing it to throw all its energy into sending out sucker growth. Very sad.

Here's another poor tree. Don't know what is wrong with it:

I've just been told it might have been herbicide damage.

That first one is SOOOOO special, amboseli! I love the layered effect.

And the jacaranda is my favorite, as bixa will attest.
Posted by amboseli on Feb 22, 2012, 10:41pm
The jacaranda is my favourite, too. We don't have them here in Belgium but can't wait to go back to Portugal where there's an abundance of jacaranda trees.

The first pic is taken very early in the spring when the bluebells are in bloom. The leaves of the trees are just coming out. That's what makes it so special.

Bluebells in Belgium? Or were you traveling?
Posted by amboseli on Feb 22, 2012, 11:04pm
Bluebells in Belgium, yes! One forest in the centre of Belgium has them. It's so beautiful.

These trees aren't the most beautiful, but they are in an unexpected place.

Oh my gosh! I dunno ~~ their perfection for the very odd location & size available makes them beautiful.

Some remarkable tree pictures there.

This one was split in 2 by our 1987 storm-

A tree in our back yard was hit by lightning last week.

The damage ran from top

to bottom

It may survive, however, as it was not "girdled".

(The power was out for 7 hours from the same storm.)

A grizzled elder in the Tahoe area of California.
Yes, it is alive, though how, I couldn't tell you.

What a fighter, it deserves to live.

Lovely shot!

Thanks!

This poor tree is burdened with loads of Mardi Gras beads and lingerie thrown onto it from the chairlift by skiers.

Oh, it seems quite stoic in spite of the trash.

Why can't people leave the trees alone? That's mutilation! But a good silhouette!

That one would make a good movie character, with a little CG special effects it could talk.
