Casi, how fun, they waved back! These ships are amazing to look at in photos, but when you see them up close it is incredible.

Amboseli, maybe we will be passing your village later this year when we drive from Brugge to Bergen-Op-Zoom! I think we take the N9?

I love all of your Mississippi River shots, casimira. Can you imagine that I crossed the Mississippi River for the very first time at age 15 even though all my life we had regularly come to New Orleans?
We crossed the river for the first time to move to California.

I don't know what this boat was burning to create that much smoke. I do know that the boatyard where those tugs are moored was just a wee bit upriver from where she was so hopefully she got there and dealt with it. It was kinda spooky.

I crossed the river on a Greyhound bus a second time at Saint Louis when I took the bus to leave the country, going from Los Angeles to New York.

Naturally, I have flown over the Mississippi probably dozens of times, but it is indeed strange that I have had so little actual contact with it.

It always cracks me up when I'm up on the river and see where a ship or boat name of place is. There's a huge number of them that have Panama on them, more than the whole of Panama cold possibly hold.
Monrovia is another one.
I believe it's where the ship is registered not necessarily where it set sail from.
Someone on here with more nautical savvy may be able to embellish on this some more in more intelligible terms than I.

Whoa, she's a big one. That's such a pretty shade of red, too.

If it did in fact sail from Singapore, that would be a very looong and tedious trip.

This is a very cool link that Imec turned me onto that tracks marine traffic. And,it's LIVE!!
You can go on there and see what's coming, going etc. All kinds of data about the vessel.
They will even allow you,( if this particular function is in operation at the time,lately there's been a snafu...) post pictures and copyright them for you of particular ships and boats.
Very,very cool!!
It can get pretty adddictive if you're into ships and boats.

Thanks, Kimby, I am very partial to that old boat. I went exploring down the river and heard the wind catching in the sails before I saw the boat. It came around the bend and was a magnificent sight. The picture doesn't do it any justice at all and it doesn't give you an idea of the size. I tried to find a bit of information about the boat, but the only thing I remember is that it was built around 1905.
