A little Haitian girl that lives in the NYC neighborhood where I stayed. I was haunted by her stare, and asked permission to take her picture.

She's sweet and beautiful.....and somehow, noble.

I took a series of different photos of this gentleman over a period of about a week. Each morning, and sometimes in the evening,he would be in the same spot where I took my walk on the beach (he is the gentleman in Shadows and Silhouettes) surf casting for striped bass.
A kindly old gent,he posed for me on this particular morning, which also happened to be 9/11. It was when I saw what was written on his cap, that I welled up with tears as I remembered that awful day).
His name is Herb.

Stolen photos of a very confused man - Place de la Bastille.

He stared at the phone for a long time - I could almost read his mind 'What the #%*@*%!!

Fantastic. That's about the same daily spectacle that I see in the phone booth downstairs, particularly when the weather gets colder and people camp in the booths.

Kerouac, just have a look at whats on a shelf in the phone booth where the guitar player is.....Looks like communion chalices to me - well very plain ones, but I'm wondering what the singer is doing with them? Would they be for sale?

Amazing photographs, Tod2 ~~ excellent compositions and most interesting subject matter.

I love the way the reflections of the booth confuse the eye, which is so perfect in the context.

The second photo looks more like one of those realistic sculpture installations rather than real people, brilliantly adding to the "confusion".

Gad, Bjd ~~ you are BRILLIANT at this kind of portraiture!

bjd, for me it is a little strange to see the man with the beard dyed with henna in that setting. I'm far used to seeing it here and it always seems to stand out far more in Europe. The question is though, why has he done it?
The answer could be that it is to indicate he's been on the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. But more likely he has done it as it is 'Sunnah'.

Sunnah is 'usual practice' and refers to what Muhammad did or didn't do. It's his sayings and living habits. So in effect, as Muhammad did it and it was a normal thing for him to do, then it becomes a normal thing also to do for everyone.
There are restrictions on what colours can be used and what dyes. Black is a no-no for instance, and as henna was widely used, thus it will still be used.

Mark, I haven't seen many men with red-dyed beards. These guys were in Brussels, despite all the English writing behind them.

Not too far from my house is the local Scout Camp where all kinds of activities are held over weekends.
This weekend there is a more elderley group staying in the forest area of the camp. I drove past looking for more photos for 'What's in Bloom' and saw these old guys having a friendly game of croquet. The Scout Camp is called Lexden and has a Fleur De Lis, or is it Fleur de Lys? emblem.

The guy on the right in the last photo looks like he is testing the wind speed and direction for his next shot. :)

(Both lis and lys are acceptable.)

This beautiful angel is my grandson trying to escape from his bedroom. Seems the effort was just too much and he fell asleep on the step. Who could resist a stolen photo or two?..........

Looks like a very nice person, with the somewhat lost look of a lot of that age group -- remembering things from the past....

I was getting ready to delete a pedestrian photo of the band that played here yesterday. Then I noticed this kid looking right at the camera.

What a beautiful, beautiful boy, Tod! You did such a loving and skilled job of capturing him, too.

I was wondering who the little angel elf was in your great photo in the Wild & Wonderful Garden Birds thread. Now I know ~ :D
