I can see that I need to plan another trip to South Africa, it's been 10 years since the last one!

We're now leaning towards CT > Namibia > Kruger, still settling how many days at each and which ones to drive between. Girl, has done more research on CT so far but I'm catching up now that I've turned my attention to it (holy s***, beautiful).
Any specific vineyards or activities to consider? I'll check back in the thread but I think it was mostly general thoughts.
My parents might come with us too.

Hi,
I just found this thread - hope it isn´t too late for some ideas for your trips...
We visited South Africa last year (Jo´burg to CT by car) and SA and Namibia in 2007 (CT to Vic Falls by Truck in a group).
You asked for things to do in or around CT. At first you will go up the Table Mountain by cacable car My advice: Take the first chance, on many days the cable car doesn´t run because of the weather-conditions. Before you go to the station you can phone if the cablecar is in operation. And: Order your tickets Online, so you can avoid one of the two long lines (1x ticket, 1x cable car). http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afrika/ke-nako-afrika/kapstadt/ http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afrika/ke-nako-afrika/in-mother-city/ (I´m sorry, the text is in German, but maybe you have fun with the pictures)
The other "Must" is a daytrip to the Cape. The famous Chapman´s Peak Drive is amazing, on the way you can visit the penguins at Boulders Beach in Simon's Town or have a lunch-break in Hout Bay. http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afri....-end-my-friend/
If you go to the Winelands my advice is to visit Franschoek. It is a little town in a picturesque valley near Stellenbosch, but not so well known. Franschoek has a Huguenot-History and it is also one of the culinary centres in SA. Try the Springbok-Steak! http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afri....in-franschhoek/
For the Kruger I can´t say anything, but if you have one or two days left you can make a stopover at the Blyde River Canyon, maybe a daytrip at the Panorama-Route? http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afrika/ke-nako-afrika/panorama-route/ Or do a short stop at one of the waterfalls near Sabie: http://wirweltweitweg.wordpress.com/afrika/ke-nako-afrika/sabie-und-mac-mac/
For Namibia: I´ve no online-pictures of it, but here are my personal highlights: - the dunes at Sossusvlei at sunrise (and try to catch a little group to make the 4x4-drive to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, it is not so expensive - think it was 20$ pP). If you go to Sossusvlei you can visit the beautiful Sesriem Canyon, it is on your way. - the strange German colonial-flair of Swakopmund, if you are a action-junkie there are a lot of things to do around there. Also a scenic-flight over the dunes of the Namib-Desert. - sunset, sunrise and a lonely night under the starry sky at the Spitzkoppe. Unforgettable! - the direct contact with cheetahs at a sanctuary near Outjo/Otjivarongo - the visit of the Himba-Village near Etosha-NP, a very interesting and strange culture!
Oh - there´s so much to do and to see in this two countries...
best wishes and have fun in southern Africa! momo

Yes indeed Nycboy, we leave for Kruger on Saturday - probably about 5am. We have to reach Phalaborwa by nightfall for our first night stop before entering the park on Sunday. I hope to get some good sightings which I will then post on here. Back on 27th.
