Just a few cases identified so far (three, I think) -- too early to know if the vaccine still works or not.

I haven't been following this recently, and just saw this on the internet. Is it from a legitimate news source?

There have been some flu shot incidents in France, none fatal. Some babies were apparently vaccinated with 400% of the dose they should have received.
Vaccination mania has started in France. There are vaccination centers, and the hours of operation have been extended and also they are now open 7 days a week, because people were waiting for hours at first. We are all supposed to receive our vaccination coupon in the mail sooner or later.

My son is due to have his shot on the 8th. Now I don't now whether to have it done or not...
Just don't know what to do..
This was the 'seasonal' flu shot though?

No, you have to pay for seasonal flu in France unless you are over 65. This is the new flu that they are doing free. Now that France has had 2 deaths from the new Norwegian mutation that totally destroys lungs, the vaccine has become ultra popular.

I had my shot 2 weeks ago, my arm was sore for a day or two but otherwise I did not feel anything. I am glad I have done it.

They were "plumb out" of vaccine for seasonal flu in our whole county before we left for Florida, and I am not in a high risk group for H1N1 (though I live with a high risk person = health care worker, who HAS been vaccinated), so have been unable to get vaccinated so far this year.

A quick update on my son's friend: he was finally released from the hospital today after almost 3 months. The risk of pneumonia as a complication of H1N1 seems to be a pretty big deal, as the few that I know who contracted Swine flu also ended up with pneumonia. But this young man's ordeal was really extreme.
I am really so happy that he can be home with his family for Christmas, even if he has quite a bit of rehab ahead of him.

I'm new here and FWIW, I had the vaccine in late October. I'm still here and have not acquired any ticks or extra limbs. Yet.

We have all decided not to have it done. This could change at some point, but I feel fine about this decision right now.
And welcome to the board, spaceneedle!

Who would have ever imagined such things in young people?

It's precisely because they ARE young - and haven't lived long enough to be exposed to these bugs before - that young people are so hard hit.

Whilst coming through immigration in Bangkok and Phuket I looked around for the Fever Detection Gates that Kerouac told us about but I couldn't see them.

Good news for cristina's friend and her son.
Having a good friend with an immunocompromised daughter, I want to do what I can to keep the 10 year old healthy. Finally was able to get my flu shots yesterday, both seasonal and H1N1, of which the county finally got a batch after being completely out for weeks.
No ill effects so far.

Maybe it's because I was transitting from Bangkok to Phuket. Perhaps they're situated at the exit point in Bangkok...

I sent an hour and a half on Christmas Day queueing at a chemist for Tamiflu for my 2 yr old neice who has swine flu. On Christmas morning my brother and his wife were about to call an ambulance as she was not responding but she woke up and her temp dropped and their doctor told them not to unless her temp goes so high again. She is getting much better now since taking the anti-virals.
Very surprised my small fat one hasn't got it as they are always together, maybe in the next few days, but I really hope not.

My own GP said that he has only had official tests done on a minority of his patients -- notably policemen, teachers, supermarket cashiers -- all of whom claimed to have the symptoms of H1N1 -- and only about 15% of the tests came back positive. It appears that many people have swine flu of the mind.

Here in Montana, all of the cases of flu have been H1N1. The seasonal flu hasn't made an appearance yet. The health workers administering the vaccines expect that there will be another round of H1N1 soon, and are giving away the vaccine to all comers.

France ordered something like 85 million vaccines (for a population of 63 million) and now (along with Germany), it is trying to get rid of all of the excess, which most countries don't want or need. France sold a little to Qatar, a bit more to Egypt, but most of it is probably going into the dust bin. The laboratories are in ecstasy from the panic that was created and all the money they made from panic orders.

Every single pharmacy here is offering H1N1 flu shots. I need to inquire as to what they are charging. I haven't seen any lines for...

My surgery has finally got around to offering me the vaccine (I'm supposed to be a priority case) and there's a slip of paper that I'm supposed to sign, date and return if I refuse to have it. I am refusing the vaccine but I CBA about signing the stupid form.

I received my vaccination coupon in the mail that was awaiting my return to Paris. I remain undecided as to whether it is worth it for me to get vaccinated, but I see that there are three vaccination centers in my arrondissement where I can go. (They set most of these temporary centers up in school gymnasiums.)

I am even more skeptical of than before. I can't help but believe I actually had "it" back in November when I took very ill.
