I absolutely love to listen to radio stations at the other side of the world. Does anybody have any good links for online radios? Frankly, during the work day, I listen to France Inter, which is a public station somewhat similar to NPR in the United States. I like to learn things rather than just listening to music all the time. www.franceinter.com

I very much like the night news bulletin at 10 pm on France Culture. It has a very good coverage of international news. I like it especially when it is presented by Jean-Louis Crimon. Jean-Louis Crimon is so anti-Sarkozy that it's hard to understand how and why he hasn't been sacked yet.
For those who speak/read French, here's a comment he made (in the news bulletin) after a TV interview of Sarkozy last year:

I'll have to tune into that (writing in English so all will understand). 10pm is 4pm here in Montréal. I most often listen to Espace musique (Radio-Canada2). In a few minutes our time the "world music" show with Chantal Jolis will come on (20h/8pm our time, but the broadcasts can be listened to at other times and afterwards now). I know that the concept of "world music" is rather silly: i.e. anything that is not the host country's culture au sens large (here, Québécois, French and other European francophone music) + popular "mainstream" English-language music, however one would define that) but Chantal does a great medly of old favourites and discoveries, and here, usually makes one forget the bloody winter - unless she is featuring Scandinavian or Russian music... Kerouac, I like learning things as well, and also listen to Radio-Canada and CBC 1 (with more news and public affairs) as well as community radio, as long as they are reasonably professional and don't make me want to throw something due to poor grammar or elocution... But when I'm translating, it can be very distracting. I find I can listen to the "flow" of music and some commentary without losing my train of thought or get anxious and distracted as I sometimes to by silence. www.radio-canada.ca/espace_musique/

Déjà Vu, a Franco-English love story about two people who don't speak the same language, is available on Arte Radio. Length: 43 minutes. (Click on 'fictions') It was recorded in direct sound, notably on the Eurostar, so it doesn't sound at all like a typical radio play.

I'm embarrassed I didn't think to post this sooner: NPR, includes 24-hour program stream. In addition to programs covering everything imaginable and introducing listeners to all sorts of things, NPR was invaluable to me when I lived in the States in bad newspaper zones.

I love to listen to NPR and I am very sorry that I don't think to listen to it more often.

So, what did you think of the interview with Marianne Faithful on NPR? I never knew she wrote the lyrics to 'Sister Morphine". Most of the other stuff was pretty familiar. I thought Terri Gross ill prepared or something off balance in her presentation/questioning,especially for her. I almost got the feeling she was intimidated by her guest, not in a nasty way but maybe nervous because she is a fan perhaps. I love Faithful's voice. Singing a Dolly Parton cover, how brilliant!

When I can't travel, sometimes listening to radio stations from other parts of the world can help a lot. Here is a great site for finding solace: Delicast

As often happens, I was searching for something entirely unrelated when I found this practical and up-to-date link for classical music: classicalwebcast.com/onepage.htm

I tune into this station in the evening sometimes while washing the dishes. Tonight's show of "On Point with Tom Ashbrook" reminded me of Bixa. It's an interview with the author of new James Brown biography, plus some of the music. onpoint.wbur.org/2012/03/14/james-brown

www.rai.tv/dl/RaiTV/popup/player_radio.html?v=1Here's one I listen to tons RAI Uno. There are links to four or five oither RAI stations in the player as well if you don't like what's on one. It is really very good although it is in Italian so probably not of interest to most of us.

In the same vein, the Radio France site gives access 7 of their radio stations as well as things like the French national orchestra, the Radio France Philharmonic and the Radio France Chorus. You can also get a podcast of anything you missed for 7 days. Radio France

Is this one too obvious? Pandora.comYou can create your own "stations" e.g. Django Rheinhardt & Stephane Grappelli or Annette Hanshaw, or bluegrass, and get a continuous stream of similar songs. If you choose a classical composer they play random movements, which I find a little odd. It's a fun way to hear obscure tunes. My husband and girls use it so much we paid the $30/year to get it commercial free.

I've been really into this lately, not an online radio station but a streaming music service with playlists. (Of course, people like lagatta will all ready know about this). www.icimusique.ca/Lately I've really been into the Le Temps d'Une Chanson playlist - lots of mid century French classics: Serge G., Bécaud, Moustaki, Barbara. When I get bored with the rotation I move onto the next.

I'm a huge radio fan - could happily ditch the TV. Love working in the greenhouse with the radio on. Favourite listening Test Match Special (cricket), The Archers, Desert Island Discs and Radio 4 Extra (BBC archives station). Sometimes Radio 4 and World Service.
Can any of you outside the UK get these stations?

This is really a fun site. Someone posted it elsewhere & when I clicked on it I got taken immediately to Acapulco. For whatever reason, that's what IP sites report as my location. Anyway, I moved the map thingy north and east into the state of Oaxaca & noticed a station with an indigenous name. It is RadioBiguixheNet in Santa María Xadani. What do you think is playing? Progressive jazz! I'm off to explore the rest of the world. Here is the link: radio.garden/ pee ess ~ you can zoom in on the map as everything is a satellite photo
