We've got a shiny new forum and now is the time to get it growing and going. We need to get the word out, and not in the same old places. What I'm proposing is that we use Facebook to let the world know about Any Port. You don't necessarily have to use your own Facebook page, either. It's easy to quickly post the link & a couple of sentences on your friends' pages -- just a quick statement and the url is enough to draw the attention of those who'd be interested. In short order, we'll have a healthy global community posting here. Go to the Share Link button on a Facebook page & paste in: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/When you hit Preview, you'll have a space to write something. Paste in this: Any Port in a Storm is a community of voyagers from around the world. Some may have put travel behind them and others may not yet have used a passport, but those interested in the world around them should find things of interest here.

If you do, you will have me 'abusing' your Staus all the time!
I'll sign up tomorrow, Bix....I really can't see much 'take up' from my 'Friends' though....

You can use an alternate email and an alernate name, i.e. Spin Drift, as opposed to what you were christened. You can also make your page very private & not reveal any personal details.

Uh, if I were leaving someone behind, I wouldn't be reminding everyone about him/her.
This is the thread where I nag people to publicize Any Port, but welcome, anyway.

I have registered the existence of this place with Google and Yahoo, so that the content will start showing up when people make web searches about various subjects.
If anybody wants to recommend more search engines with which to register, please feel free to list them.

Pass this along in non-related venues, as well. You never know who might be interested.
Also, stress to people you know that being a native speaker of English is hardly a requirement. The more people from different countries who are on here, the more enriched the forum will be. If they don't have a scholar's command of English, so what?

Some of us who were schooled in English, are struggling with grammar and spelling at the moment, and even simple word use, so the non native English speakers would feel right at home.

We will work our way up as more and more links are found by the autobots. Thanks a lot for doing that hunt, Kimby! It's good to know that we are already showing up after just one week.

We are seven months old now. If you google any port in a storm, we're are on the first page of hits, the second hit!
There is already a thread going about bringing in new members. But here and now I'd like to say HI! to those members who log in, but remain unseen and unheard. Come on out, folks, please. This kind of forum is definitely "the more, the merrier".

I found this place noodling about on Google. I was trying to find stuff about the styles of Paris Metro stations and it linked me to that thread

What's the painting in your avatar, Fumobici? I really like it.

Far from it Kerouac, I need to make time to look through your Paris travelogues because I have not had the opportunity to do so since the one of the canal that disappears and re-appears again 4 kms later. Do you also do them elsewhere?

I have copied a few to other sites, but usually I just post a link to this place. In any case, the "big" sites don't allow direct photo posting, so we have an advantage on that.

I think it could be an excellent use of my Sunday morning this weekend. Its a substitute for not having an actual holiday this summer... I may have a carafe of red on hand to help with the atmosphere.

Just a suggestion. But seeing as this is a new growing forum, we need to make newcomers feel welcome. I always try and make an effort to do this, ask questions, add to their comments etc.
And, if I may say so, the quickest way to disinterest, discourage newcomers is if they feel they have just arrived at a party of people who know each other and have their own private conversations going. There are other places for that, facebook, msn etc. I hate to use the word, but 'Cliquishness' is just detrimental to a growing site. Anyway Just my 2pennies worth.

As civilized adults, we all know how to be friendly, but sometimes people get so comfy on their forums, it's good to be reminded. Thanks!
