Mmmm ~~ I think you're wrong about that. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the shape of an iris.

It is taken from an iris which is also known as the sword lily.

Hence the use of the word 'alledgedly'. I've seen it argued somewhere.

G.,you ask for suggestions and people have gone above and beyond trying to assist you . But for goodness sake as least try and be a little gracious about it.

Maybe the confusion -- bee/iris -- is because both the fleur-de-lis and the bee have been used as symbols of France?

Byeeeee Cas !
I think you'll find I responded well enough to the suggestions offered from others relevant to the question in the OP. Don't get this reaction confused with having a pop at you and Bix, by involving them, there's a good girl.

The current symbol of France is the cock. Perhaps a weathervane?

GOT IT !
Do any of you partake in Freecycle ? I know they have it in the states, but not sure about elsewhere. Basically, an email based site where peopl can get rid of stuff they don't want without selling. If you want it, you email them back and they tell you when and where to come pick it up.
This just popped up this evening. I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said it was IDEAL :
2 Cast Iron rain water gutter catcher's.

Now, after you give her the 2 cast iron rain water gutter catchers and have prepared your last will and testament, may I offer these two lovely suggestions for the grieving widow? Quite beautiful, but heavy... Or, as a final tribute to your artistry, a lighter and lovingly crafted wrought iron urn...

No, it's a wrought iron casket...it looks like the 'last supper' to me. I will stop being mean. How much longer before the big day?
(*ahem*...the iron casket or urn are meant for you, not your wife...after you give her the iron rain gutters.)

Aah, I see. Nice. My wife's great uncle made his own coffin as he was very tall (and a carpenter) and didn't want them to break his legs to get him into it. Sort of a similar thing, eh ?
Midsummers Day is our anniversary. So not long really. But I need to wait until payday (28th) to make any further, errm, progress ....

I have a good idea -- a "serious suggestion", if you will. I've noticed on some of the internet anniversary sites that they try to pass the 6th anniversary off as "wood" also. That doesn't work because a) you already had your wood anniversary and b) you said you all prefer to celebrate the traditional anniversary. SO ......... what if you got her a really nice trunk or jewelry box that looks like a trunk? It would be a keepsake forever, would give the nod to the "wood" part of the 6th anniversary, and iron is always a big feature of old trunks. Whether or not your house is decorated with antiques, this kind of item always fits in. They're useful too, for extra blankets & linens. I have no idea what antique trunks cost, which is why I'm suggesting a "trunkish" jewelry box as a back-up. Trunks: I don't think you have enough time left, otherwise you could make her a jewelry box out of wood and order the miniature iron clasps, etc. for it.

I like Bixa's most recent.
If you persist in the ideal gutter idea, and goodness me you would be the best judge of whether those would delight your sweetheart, I hope you'll send us a photo in return for all our hard consultant work.
I'd recommend a huge bouquet of purchased flowers to accompany the freecycle gift, just to hedge your bet.

Very cute skirt! It needs ironing, though, before you present it.

Yes, he can drag this friendly helpful crowd though 80 some-odd posts while he yow-yows about how it has to be traditional, or she wouldn't like that, etc. Then he'll go out and buy her a chicken or something.
I TOTALLY don't get what happened here!

I TOTALLY don't get what happened here! It's very simple - instead of something of iron, it's something to iron.

Ahem. [OP by Gyro:] Mrs G and I have always tried to go the 'traditional' route with our anniversaries, and as far as I can see, the 6th year is IRON. many suggestions follow, including an iron, a curling iron, plus some truly lovely ideas.[post by BigIain:] Does it have to be Iron though.... seriously? I would imagine that anything you give will be well recieved Gyro. many more thoughtful suggestions follow[reply by Gyro to BigI's above:] Yes, I, it has to be iron. yet another full page of suggestions, and some churlish responses Finally, we get a picture of a skirt.
