Is this the first time that Wimbeldon will be tryting out their new retractable roof in case of rain? I asked this question earlier but no one answered. Who picks up the tab for something like that. It's got to be incredibly expensive. Anyway,GO ROGER!!

Yes. Centre court only. It was funded by the Lawn Tennis Association who pretty much run the tennis at top level in the UK. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7907707.stmIt looks good actually, designed to allow natural light to provide the majority of the light inside.

Roland Garros is planning to build a roof also. It is uncertain whether they will actually do it.

When it's Nadal v. Federer, my sympathies are for whoever is behind. I want them both to win. Maybe if they just played for fun and didn't keep score.
It takes me a few minutes to figure out how to watch actual television on our TV the few times a year I want it. This is one of them.

I feel the same, lola -- so I am rooting for Roger as usual (since Rafa generally wins).

Yeah Federer is back into the match, just won the third set! Mich

Ohhhhh, this match has been so close. They are so evenly matched, but I think Nadal is going to win this one today.
Then on to Wimbleton.
Cheers, Mich

Rafa is simply on another planet from everyone else on the terre battue. Today was actually the best I've ever seen Federer play against Nadal at Roland-Garros.

It's all finished. Joko's dream did not come true.
Today being the day that wasn't supposed to exist, I heard that the price of tickets for the final today was 80 euros. That still seems a bit steep to me since it didn't last long.

I just got a change to watch the last game on YouTube. Nadal is just lovely on the court.
Too bad championship point was double fault. Djokovic has to be kicking himself. My daughter goes to school with a Serb who knows and likes Djokovic, so being only 4 times removed I'd have been more OK with him winning than previously.

It was immediately noted that the sun came out for the first time in two weeks during the last exchange of the last match. Bravo to Novak.

I think I am the only serious tennis player/fan on the site. Novak was magnificent, full credit to him. He appears to be nearly unbeatable over five sets this year. I never believed for a second watching the match that Murray had a prayer, even when he led 1-0 in sets.

So, the French Open started today, in the wrong month with the wrong weather and almost no spectators. It just goes to show that so much money is now involved in certain sports that they will go to any length to keep the money pump in operation. The players are all confined to just one hotel and cannot go out except by shuttle to the tennis courts. This is not the sort of experience to which they had signed up. But their bank accounts are more important.

I am sure the news this morning said Andrew Murray was history - lost to someone with a Russian sounding name. Please forgive me for not getting hold of the facts but if you have them, then its OK!
Tennis is only exciting for me when Wimbledon comes around, and then I might not watch if the grunting becomes too irritating .

Andy Murray was wiped out by Swiss player Stan Wawrinka, the hope of Switzerland as Swiss-South African Roger Federer enters retirement.

Even though the main court now has a roof in case of rain and all of the courts have lighting for night play, the players do not seem to be enjoying this event. It is apparently much more pleasant to play in June rather than at the end of September.
Meanwhile, I also read that some of the players are hating the lack of spectators and others are much more comfortable playing without the pressure of the crowd.

Strangely cricket here against W Indies, Ireland, Pakistan and Australia was some of the best I have seen even though totally devoid of spectators. Sorry to go slightly off topic.

I felt a swelling of Polish Pride at the Grand Slam win of the women's finals yesterday as 19 year old Iga Swiatek from Poland held her trophy high in Paris. Just the beginning of hopefully a long and successful career for this young lass.

I am always happy when a new generation of players arrives. Since tennis stars can continue until about age 38, the really good ones (Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Williams, etc.) are very hard to push into retirement.
