Aaaah ~~ thanks for that, Fulgenzio. Local radio here is so commercial-intensive that I mostly don't listen, so have to make a conscious effort to hear newer music. This is the first time I've heard Mika, who is hardly new any more. It is extremely pleasant light pop!

Peter von Poehl - The Story of the Impossible

I truly enjoy hearing of these artists who would remain unknown to me otherwise. Local radio is pretty awful. There are a couple of programs that play newer music, but frequently they either don't announce who performed, or do it at the end of a long segment of play, with the names so mangled that they're meaningless.

Peter von Poehl is a Swedish singer who does most of his work in France. We have another one of those -- I'll dig him up later.

Speaking of "misplaced" Swedes, I was recently introduced to this, which certainly belongs in this thread:

Ja Ja's song is what I guess you could call pleasantly creepy. The Paris song is lovely, bixa.

Jay Jay is popular because nobody expects that cadaverous voice to come out of that skeletal body -- and also he sounds very retro while at the same time having techno-oid details in the background music. (He is Swedish but does most of his work in France.)

I think "old" Shakira fits nicely into the pleasant light pop designation ~

bixa, the first Olle Nyman song shows images of "Love me if you dare" (see imdb.com for me details) I felt compelled to look for that film when I recognised Marion Cotillard in the video.

Wow -- good call, Annie! I just watched it again and don't think I would have caught Marion Cotillard if you hadn't pointed it out, and then only by the profile early in the video. That first shot of the guy makes him look as though he could be the son (or more likely, grandson) of Jean-Paul Belmondo. Thanks! If anyone wants to watch it online: stagevu.com/video/sfizjwgfwplyThat will require the (free download) DivX player, which is well worth having. It has English subtitles, because I used a US search engine to find it. In other countries you could probably find it in a pure state.

Just as an aside regarding "Jeux d'Enfants" (Love Me If You Dare), which is a pretty good film with a surprising ending, it should be mentioned that the stars Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard were not together at the time, but they are now. (He was married to Diane Kruger before.)

The American singer Stacey Kent has become so popular in France (her albums have all gone gold or platinum) that her latest album is 100% in French.
Her voice and style are particularly suited to singing the French version of Brazilian samba songs.

To be perfectly honest, I expected to hate those songs. I've only listened to the 2nd one so far, but yes, very pleasant.
