Aussie beer. I'd prefer French bubbly but never mind.

mixed ginger tea and a fruit tea called "hot kiss" (agnes chose that one at the store). so, basically raspberry-cherry tea with a slight ginger note.

I bought a six-pack of Jupiler 0.0%. About once a year I test alcohol free beer to see if it has improved at all. Generally it hasn't, but in this last year there has been such an explosion in the number of possibilities on hand -- every single brand now seems to have a 0% version -- perhaps there has been a breakthrough. I'll try one in a few days.

I am sure Jupiler 0 tastes better than normal Heineken or Bud. Leffe 0 is still undrinkable. Just bought a crate by mistake.

I don't understand non-alcoholic beer. Beer is generally pretty low alcohol to begin with.

Considering the laws regarding driving in various countries, it seems pretty important to me. France is considering going from 0.5 to 0.0 for blood alcohol levels, and I am not against the idea. Not everybody wants to switch to Coca-Cola or water as a pre-driving beverage. A good tasting non alcoholic beer would be an acceptable alternative.

as i don't drink alcohol very often lately, one beer is enough for me to notice i have drunk something. and on a longer evening i might want to drink several beer, without feeling slightly drunk ...

Singha is pissy and weak like Tsingtao. I drink Chang when in Thailand.

I'll try Chang if I am in Thailand but I was in malpensa. They had a Kirin or an asahi. Berk. I had a grappa in Milano. Delicious.

I want to like grappa. I really do. I love almost everything Italian, but no.

The only two East Asian beers I can recall thinking were better than merely OK were Great Wall and San Miguel. And neither was anything really special.

Isn't San Miguel a South American beer ? I'll try another Leffe 0 in 5 min. Wish me luck.

Chang has a bad reputation in Thailand due to various rumours about it. For this reason it is cheaper than the other beers like Singha. I have heard dozens of time during my travels that it contains formaldehyde. "That's why you get a headache when you drink it." In reality, it is merely a stronger beer than any of the other local beers, so it is not the best choice for beer chuggers.
It took me less than one second to reject the formaldehyde theory the very first time I heard it, for two reasons:
1. Chang is made by the Danish brewery Carlsberg. 2. It is sold in Europe.
I really do not believe that Carlsberg makes formaldehyde beer or that such a beer would be authorised in Europe. Oddly enough, the Chang sold in my local Asian supermarket is much weaker than the Thai version, along the lines of 4.8 compared to 6.5. That's quite rare for an export version compared to a local version. I guess it's because they take out the formaldehyde.

Isn't San Miguel a South American beer ? I'll try another Leffe 0 in 5 min. Wish me luck. San Miguel is a Filipino beer (1890) with a Spanish version that started in 1946. San Miguel is the #1 beer in the Philippines and Hong Kong.

I spent a few days in Manila about 30 years ago. I was not impressed. I stayed at the Hyatt and the room was full of cockroaches.

I did live just to the south of Manila for a year and a half or so, maybe a little more. We commuted into Manila every work day. We did some travelling but not too much because it was the time we adopted our three kids from Colombia and took them back there. We were a bit busy. Though this was 2002/2003. My overriding memory was that generally, the food was crap.

We are emptying a bottle of very old rum from Clément house. I am not a rum drinker but this I d tastes real good. Single cask put in a drum in 2002 and bottled in 2017. Real good.
