Have I taught you people nothing? You know you can go to google & ask olvidado [or whatever foreign word] in english, right? Also, this is a handy tool to have on your computer: www.wordreference.com/And the non-snarky answer to the question is forgotten.

Oh, but Bixa, where is the fun in that when we can be sloths and rely on your eloquence versus the oh so boring result of having to look it up?

Nothing to do with olives then?

Think more along the lines of oblivion. (The Spanish can be a bit dyslexic.)

Caught me out, Mick. Yes, the real meaning of olvidado is "a person who persists in dipping the olive in and out of the glass and even sucking it until his martini is all gone".

It's happened again. 4am and I'm trying to get "Oklahoma" right particularly the bit where they spell it out at the end. Eventually I got it right with the music but I have since lost it.

It's public television pledge week, so they're bringing out all the old crowd-pleasers, like John Denver and the Carpenters. Karen Caroenter's beautiful alto voice is going round and round in my head: "Long ago, and oh so far away. I fell in love with you-oo-oo before the second show..."
"Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near? Just like me, they long to be Close to You...." "We've Only Just Begun...", "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down..."

I don't know. It's one of those songs that might grow on you. Perhaps, a good tune for a long car trip where you need some energy to stay awake behind the wheel.

Love that song...
I caught a snatch of this song when walking the dog yesterday. Most irritating remake of an English version EVER...

Aaaacckkk ~ yes, it could even make you hate French.
Have always loved that James Taylor song -- super lyrics -- & the concert version in the video is interesting. "She gets a long letter; sends back a postcard." ha ha

M. Pokora is doing a parody of the Claude François version dating from 1976. Personally, I prefer to hate the American version of the Claude François song "Comme d'habitude" which was butchered by Frank Sinatra under the title "My Way."

Personally, I prefer to hate the American version of the Claude François song "Comme d'habitude" which was butchered by Frank Sinatra under the title "My Way." Me too. Once when it never seemed to be off the radio, my father was dozing by the fire as it came on again. He stirred and said "Wassat? What's he on about? 'I did it sideways'? Silly arse." - and dozed off again. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

I read that Frank Sinatra hated the song, too, but he became its prisoner.

Patrick, I chuckled.
We heard this version of My Way, called Their Way, sung one night by Bright Morning Star in the Univ of Pennsylvania auditorium. Big hit with that crowd!
THEIR WAY
I came, bought all my books, lived in a dorm, followed directions, I worked, I studied hard, met lots of folks who had connections. I crammed, they gave me grades, though may I say not in a fair way, But more, much more than this, I did it their way.
I learned a lot of facts although I know I’ll never use them. The courses that I took were all required; I didn’t choose them. I learned, that to survive, it’s best to act the doctrinaire way. And so I buckled down and did it their way.
But there were times I wondered why I had to walk when I could fly. I had my doubts, but after all, I clipped my wings, I learned to crawl. I learned to bend, and in the end, I did it their way!
And now, my fine young friend, I have become a full Professor, Where once I was oppressed, I have become the cruel Oppressor! Like me, you’ll learn to fly, you’ll learn to climb life’s golden stairway! Like me, you’ll see the light. You’ll do it my way!
What can I say, what can I do? Go to the book, read Chapter 2. And if to you it seems routine, don’t speak to me, go tell the Dean. As long as they give me my pay, I’ll do it my way.

My Way is the gift that just keeps on giving. Another version of Their Way, this one for disgruntled employees.
And now, the boss is near I must embrace my subjugation I have to kiss his rear Or else I'll face sure termination I've worked a life that's full Of more sand traps then any fairway But they are management I did it their way
Regrets, I've had a bunch Why did I not find life's enjoyment? I had no big lucky breaks I made mistakes in my employment I wish I'd studied hard Each working day is a bad hair day But they are management I do it their way
Yes there were times, I'm sure you know I almost thought, I'd run the show But then the boss gave me the slip And then I knew, I'm not a VIP Face full of egg, I went and begged And did it their way
I've shoved, I've pushed and hauled That rock uphill and still no ending I'd hoped I could retire But wife and kids still love spending And so I go to work To where each day is a nightmare day And though it cannot be I do it their way
If I were Chairman of the Board I surely wouldn't be ignored I'd say the things I truly feel Not put my shoulder to the wheel My bloody nose is here to show I do it their way
Yes, it's done their waaayyyyy

I have to say, I don't see how all that high-octane over-emoting really helps M. François. It all seems a bit out of kilter with the mood of the words - I'd say they're more suited to some rueful late-night pianobar style. But I never did like all that shouty, brassy, up-one for the final chorus, style of singing in any language. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

Ha ha, Breeze -- those versions are great!
Ditto, Patrick, on the revved-to-the-max song productions.
If anyone wants to pity me, consider that "My Way" in Spanish is trotted out for almost any occasion where music is involved here.
