Oh, I know! I was close in my guess, I think. Is it gooseberry ?

Nope.

Well, hell! It's probably something that is exotic to me.

It's just a different shape for something quite common.

Mick - It's a tomato

Wrong stem for a tomato, I think.

It looks similar to quince.

Quince wouldn't be that translucent or smooth, I don't think.
The translucence does make it look like a tomato, as Tod suggested. Did Mick remove the cap?

By any strange chance, is it a CUCUMBER ?

i only had three tomato plants this year, after last year my tomatoes and other vegetable plants were so disappointing. this year they carried alright, though - but i did not get to eat much of them, agnes was convinced they are hers, and we had to watch out she does not pick them before they are red enough ...

I hope this is not cheating, but I thought you all might enjoy these clever pictures as much as I did. They are hanging inside a large exhibition space in a cultural center here. The theme is ecological crops or something like that.

Mossie, to think I've wasted so much money on jewelry over the years, when I could have had my bling & eaten it too!
Tod, your garden is so lush and healthy & beautiful. The photos aren't showing up on my screen, just their urls -- ?

Oh bixa, those photos are the best. The vegetables are stars! I'm not much for accessorizing, but a vegetable tiara or necklace is almost tempting.
Tod, you're not going to pick those tomatoes and eat them, I hope. I want a photo of you wearing cherry tomato earrings and a swiss chard scarf.

Tod, disregard my question about the pictures. There is something wrong with my Firefox, as I can see your wonderful photos on IE.
