It's always nice when the pilot says, "Don't worry. We're going to have a safe landing, but there's a problem and we'll be met by a safety crew." :-(

That's when the smarty-pants passengers who did not watch the safety talk at the beginning of the flight start looking for their nearest exit and surreptitiously slide out the safety card from the seat pocket to figure out what to do "in the unlikely event..."

Really. Also I failed to mention we had been delayed at the beginning due to mechanical problems.
Such an adventure. ;-)

It's always nice to have a Star Wars storm trooper on the subway in case we need protection.

Have been seeing "woolly bear" caterpillars with short (brown) middle sections. Anyone remember whether that foretells a mild or a harsh winter? I forget.

Depends. How much had you been drinking before seeing them ? I have downed half a bottle and still don't see them...

i learned that the kids don't always brush their teeth after breakfast at daycare anymore, and that some experts consider it is not a good idea to do so anyway, because at daycare (with many kids and not that many people watching them) it is difficult to ensure that they don't swap tooth brushes, use the tooth brushes to clean the sinks or similar, or have their tooth brushes touch, which could increase the risk of caries ... so i guess i should start brushing in the morning before we go to daycare - even though that means she will eat very shortly after brushing ...

eeek. I have the breath of a jackal in the morning (une haleine de chacal in french)... So better brush my teeth. But yes, one of our cleaning ladies was using our toothbrushes to clean the sinks.

More wool on the caterpillar, harsh winter.
whatagain - I always heard it was "haleine de cadavre".
rikita - is there any way that you could encourage your daughter to eat part of an apple after lunch? This is supposed to be a pretty good substitute if you can't brush.

that would be a bit difficult, as the kids don't eat their own things - they get the lunch cooked at daycare, and sometimes they get apples or other fruit afterwards, but not always. we are not allowed to give them food from home (though we can and do bring fruit for the whole group, for their afternoon snack) and i generally think it is a good rule, as it avoids some kids always just bringing sweets, and there being jealousy about food (have observed both in other daycares) and there being risks for kids with allergies ...

Apples or any fruit are now considered to be dental no-nos for teeth cleaning after meals. Leaves the mouth too acidic which allows decay. Last I heard the advice was to eat a piece of cheese or drink unsweetened milk which will protect the tooth enamel better.

Yes, I saw that. People were standing around asking when somebody was going to hang ornaments and lights on the thing. Windows are uninspiring as well.

I wasn't even going to mention the windows until I show the full horror. Printemps wins hands down this year in spite of the commercial sponsors (Jimmy Choo, etc.).

The British are lucky. Their political campaign ends tonight, but we have to wait until Friday midnight in France. And then we have to put up with another five days next week.
