Why is it when I retired I seem to have less time to do the things I want than when I was working?

When all is said and done, the Port is still my forum of choice. I belong to and check daily, five other forums. I love the achievement of the Port and even when I am not actively posting, I read. It is unique. I love the photos, I love its special sections that appeal to sensibilites and moods of the moment. I like that we are given the opportunity to express ourselves and not be attacked or deleted. I confess that I agree with Kerouac in that I do not seem to quite grasp the unwritten, even written rules of forums. I probably never will. No matter what has happened, we need to protect and encourage this rare home to express ourselves.

I agree with you, Jazz. I like the 'Port' too. And I like the fact that belittling and attacking others is so looked down upon on here. It's makes is a 'safe' and comfortable place for us to be.
I do admit though that I sometimes find all the rules a bit overwhelming at times - so if I might say so - can we please be a bit more lax on some of them? For instance, occasionally it can add to a conversation by linking something off the Internet or a picture off the Internet that might further clarify what one is trying to say... just as an example.

Well, you do know that Bixa has only two things that she can do with her long days -- watch the tumbleweeds blow by and police the Port. I'll see if I can get her to click on the special tea on the tea thread. *runs away and hides from Bixa*

Thank you, Kerouac.
Well ,Deyana, I think we are somewhat sympatico here. Sometimes I am about to post, then I am overwhelmed with confusion...Even at this moment, I am confused. Can we post photos off the internet that are so perfect to accompany our thoughts or, must it be our own photos? We have a few exceptional photographers on this forum, however not all of us are the 'Eugene Atget' of forums, nor do some of us have the technical knowledge to download at a certain level of expertise. Thus , (uncertain) I often opt out of posting and simply read and appreciate.
In the early days of the Port, (not knowing that it wasn't the good thing to do) I often posted with photos from the internet. They weren't my own, but it did take a great deal of time and effort to research and select 'la creme de la creme'. I enjoyed myself. I think that the rules should be a tad fluid to encourage participation.

Absolutely the only place where photos are supposed to be exclusively personal is in the "Image Bank" section. That is the whole point of that section. In any other area, people can post whatever photos they find to make their point, to illustrate an idea, to show a place they love, or whatever. In 'Compass Points' personal photos are often mixed with additional pictures found elsewhere as required.
Naturally, it is always better to have personal photos to illustrate your subject, but I think it is more than obvious that I have used hundreds of photos found elsewhere on most of my threads (and I am proud not to have any personal photos for the 'Food Abomination' thread).
I have been waiting for months for Jazz to show us her own personal vision of Toronto, whether she takes the photos herself or gleans them off the net. And Deyana has been pretty secretive, too, about her town. We have seen a lot of the area around her house but no bears, damn it!

Oh! I had no idea that posting pictures from the internet wasn't in accord with protocol here. Thanks for telling me that, Jazz. It's something I rarely do myself but I enjoyed your well-found pictures, my friend. APIS is very special. It is indeed a safe port to take refuge in. Thanks to Bixa and K. I wish I didn't have to go to my cousin's funeral tomorrow. I can't bear the thought of it.

I've made the mistake of posting pics from the internet in the statues thread too. I honestly do not have time to go around seattle to photograph all the statues there. (Wish I did)

SpaceNeedle...haha ;D
Spindrift, obviously I was wrong, again....Kerouac has clarified this. Thank god. ummm...I do get confused. The only reason that I have held back from posting on Toronto is that I understand K's great longing to be in Toronto, yet again. It would be cruel to torment him with something that he cannot have. However, I will see what I can do, perhaps even a teaser, a photo of 'The World's biggest Bookstore'? ;D
