I love baseball but I never take the time to to carefully follow any sport. I was with a customer in Pittsburgh the other night and we were very tempted to skip our scheduled dinner to take in the Pirates game (the scalpers could barely give a way the tickets - don't know if this is due to the Pirates performance of late or the local economy) - it was a beautiful looking park. I've seen games at The Metrodome (Twins), the old Atlanta stadium, the old Padres stadium, the old Yankee stadium and of course Rogers Centre (Skydome). I'd love to see more (especially Wrigley).

Actually, I forgot about that one - I went early in '04 - their magic season - packed house. We sat next to an old guy who's seat was directly and closely behind one of the iron(?) canopy supports - he'd had this seat for something like 40 years.

You paid $44 for an obstructed view?
(Actually I save all tickets, although I do nothing with them. I probably have 10,000 cinema tickets.)

I would pay $44.00 for an obstructed view in Fenway Park to see the Red Sox and Devil Rays. That's actually a bargain. And a picture of Big Papi on the ticket stub no less. Fenway Park is so small there's really not too many obstructed views. When I lived in St. Louis we went to games in Busch Stadium (Gibson pitching, Lou Brock LF, Joe Torre 1st base) and sat in the bleachers for $1.00 right behind Lou. It was 1974. Truthfully, unless someone were buying me a ticket I would never be able to afford a MLB game, bleachers or obstructed view these days. Last year my niece took me to a Yankee/Red Sox game in the old Yankee Stadium. Her boss has season tickets. Problem was I was with ALL Yankee fans and the Red Sox kicked their ass.
Red Sox/Yankees on TV as we speak. Bottom 4th,Bosox 1-NY 0) I think they're still wiped out from last p.m.'s 5 1/2 hour game,15 innings!

My first game ever was at Wrigley Field in the early eighties. Been a Cubs fan ever since. That said, being born and raised (partially) in San Diego I grew up with the Tony Gywnn-era Padres, and saw games at the Murph and more recently at Pet Co. Park. Over the years, I have caught games at the old Veterans Stadium in Philly, Comiskey Park, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Dodger Stadium, and AT&T Park. Having never really lived anywhere where I had the choice between the American League and National League, I never got into the AL until recently. And there are few things finer than a Saturday day game at Wrigley Field. For baseball enthusiasts, check out www.sbnation.com for blogs on... well, every major American sporting team, college included. Also: Why is Zephyr Field in such a horrible location? It should be located somewhere in New Orleans proper. That just gives me cause to continue harping on for a MLB franchise: the New Orleans Riverines, and their ballpark, Bolden Yard overlooking the river.

Truthfully, unless someone were buying me a ticket I would never be able to afford a MLB game, bleachers or obstructed view these days. Surely it isn't that bad, cas! Bleacher seats at Yankee Stadium are only $14, up from $12 at the Yankee Stadium with all the history. Tickets for the Giants are as low as $5, and the bleachers are $12. Prices are similar up and down the West Coast. Now it's the food that'll kill ya.

Bolden Yard, I love it! No, I'm afraid you can't get bleacher seats at the new Yankee,I mean they list them as available but you can't get near the stadium unless you camp out the night before, especially this late into the season and we know it's a LONG season. Boston, the same. Now perhaps some of the other stadiums/parks in the country it's a different story.
I misread the score earlier on the TV. Thought Bosox were up by one in the 4th but they were shut out again 5-0. Tomorrow.

Glad you like it. Though given modern proclivities, it would probably end up being... oh, Entergy Field at Bolden Yards as some sort of "happy" compromise. I didn't do too much work on making it NOLA-specific, but I did extend the Riverfront Streetcar to drop off right there, before doing a turnaround ala the SF trolley system. There was also some plans of a Bywater transport center, but I never got too involved in that aspect of it. The other thought: an all you can eat oyster/crawfish/shrimp bar overlooking overlooking one of the baselines or the outfield. I also thought about working the foul ball poles into the exhaust stacks from a Paddle wheel steamer, but they might be too big. If doable, they could also double as some sort of launching tube for home run celebrations.

You'd laugh if I admitted to have been seriously considering it. I thought a run at city council might be more prudent, but I have doubts of being electable from my district.
For example, I would endorse the use of eminent domain in reclaiming a few of the many buildings that remain empty in the Quarter. To start, I would love to build a public restroom in a more central part of the Quarter; possibly a 'for pay' facility as seen in certain sections of Europe. For, say, a dollar, visitors could use a clean and well-maintained restroom and then (hopefully) refrain from using the street as a urinal. If two or three of these were built and staffed, it could add a small bit of money back into the city coffers. Staff it, and you've got a few people off the dole.
A secondary purpose would be rehabbing some of the ground floor store fronts and renting them out to local businesses at a below market rate. Rents for commercial spaces are beyond ridiculous, and the profit motive is helping to empty it out. It's time to make the Quarter into more of a neighborhood, and less of an "entertainment district." There isn't any reason why everybody couldn't continue to cohabit.
But this is a thread about baseball. With all the whinging that goes on about small the 'market' is for the Saints, something would have to be done about the television market. NOLA is currently... oh, 54th in the country. I believe Milwaukee or Pittsburgh is the smallest MLB market, so we'd have to begin to approach their numbers. We already appeal to the Mississippi Gulf Coast (a la Northwest Indiana and Chicago), and if we could get Red Stick on board, that'd be a huge step.
Traveling time and distance remains the largest obstacle aside from sheer dislike, but it's definitely something a high speed rail link would work on cutting down. If travel time could be cut down between twenty and thirty minutes, it could probably work quite well. Thinking further ahead, this would be the first step in linking South Louisiana with Shreveport and (eventually) Houston, and then Atlanta in the other direction.
Oh, and at least your Red Sox aren't making ridiculous errors. Your pitching is still holding up, too.

But,yes, baseball. We do have an amazing pitching staff however, I'm worried whether Wakefield could make it to 1st base if he had to ,with his sciatica and other related ailments. But,I guess they know what they're doing.

I am the one non-baseball fan in my immediate family. My sister, in particular, loves it. She has season tickets for SF. I enjoyed going to the stadium for an occasional game when I lived in the US, but it is more for the whole experience, not just to watch the actual game. I don't watch it on TV, though. Now that I live outside of the US, I only hear about what is going on if my parents or sister mention something.

I am not a rabid fan by any means. It is one of the only sports that I follow to some degree and it is largely due to my childhood years. My home town is the birthplace of Carl Yastrzemski and my mother is related somewhere down the line. We are the only town in NY I'm sure that has a Red Sox banner running across Main Street. Our church rented a bus to go to games in Yankee Stadium (the priest had been his Little League coach). It was a very big deal. When I lived in St. Louis my boyfriend was a huge Cardinals fan and we went to games all the time. Like nic said there's really nothing quite like being in a ball park on a summer's afternoon,if you're a fan of course. It's quite a rush.

Feel free to PM my if you'd like to hear any more about my platform; there's a lot to be finalized, but it's approaching something runnable. I need to square away my education thoughts, and work on a proposal to legalize a version of "gay marriage." But, again, it's about baseball. You're BoSox are up 5-3 in the Top of the 7th. The Cubs continue to be plagued by injuries and poor pitching in Denver.

So did you manage to see the great brawl between the BoSox and the Tigers yesterday? Fun times. There was a good one today at AT&T Park between the Giants and Dodgers, but nobody seems to have put it on Youtube yet. You can, however, get a glimpse of it from ESPN. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=sfo

I had heard about it but hadn't seen, thanks for the clip. Looks pretty intentional to me particularly in light of the previous evening. Youklis is quite a hot head but that was over the top on the part of the pitcher. Look how Youklis was able to get to the pitcher with virtually no interference from his teammates. Francona also ended up being put out the game in a later inning. I watched a little of Phillies /Cubs last p.m. Ouch! Hadn't seen Pedro on the mound in eons. I love baseball later in the season as it gets hot and heavy. It is such a long season.

The Rangers have a filthy bullpen. I wouldn't be surprised to see them catch up with the Angels before the season's put away.
After today's win, you're a full game out of the wild card, and 7.5 games behind the Bronx Bombers. Not to worry, though; you're still very much in contention! Fifteen (!!) teams are still in contention for a playoff spot this late in the season.
You should see some of the videos this guy has made using in-game footage from MLB The Show '09, they're pretty rad.
