I wonder why cactus flowers are often so "weird" compared to those of other plants. It makes me wonder if cacti might have been parachuted from Mars or some other place. Nevertheless, I am always happy to discover these photos.

Great portraits of your darlings. My Stapelia gigantea -- the real thing of a sneaky stinky flower -- bloomed. I'll post a picture as soon as I get it off the camera.

Mick, you are a master! Sometimes I wish you wouldn't post pictures of your collection because they make me feel so ashamed of what a sloppy gardener I am with my succulents.

Mick, you are a master! Sometimes I wish you wouldn't post pictures of your collection because they make me feel so ashamed of what a sloppy gardener I am with my succulents. Thank you Bixa.😘 And your pictures show you are far from sloppy. But I am complete rubbish at a thousand other things....

What an English way to accept a compliment. Anyway, thank you for saying my pictures (of course taken of the best-looking of my plants) make me look not sloppy and also

The Ariocarpus has always fascinated me. It's so ugly, even sort of sick looking, but such a survivor & has those delicately pretty flowers.
Yes, the Huernia-or-whatever-it-turns-out-to-be is a particularly wonderful color -- love those subtle shades in it.

Yeah, I reckon it’s probably a Huernia, maybe Duvalia? A friend of mine collects Crassulas and Conophytums in habitat and picks up anything else succulent and sends on to me.
Indeed Ariocarpus can look pretty dead until they send out stunning flowers. There are actually 13 flowers on it! They are early this year, probably due to the heatwave.

I always picture the inhospitable landscape of Ariocarpus native home whenever I see one.

These pictures were taken on August 2nd, the day after I got home. You can see the Stapelia is almost covered by the overgrown epazote in the planter next to it ~

Isn't it nice? Not very child-friendly, of course, but perfect for what and where it is. Yesterday I repotted my very big E. grusonii without mishap. Queen Bixa the Spineless.

Top girl! If it was me I would be bleeding like a stuck pig at the end. My blood is so thin.
I need to repot my Aloe polyphylla but every leaf has a wicked spine. It needs a 2’ half pot but can’t yet find one. It has to he plastic fir lightness as it already weighs a ton.
