Ooooooooo! I absolutely adore the first one -- something about the bottom layer of clouds reminds me of crystal, then there is that mystical clearing of deep blue sky and what could be delicate cloud messages above. Look at the spiral in one of them!

Beautiful, Don C, and yes, one would look for omens in that sky. These are nothing dramatic, just the pretty evening sky from a few days ago ~~

Wow DC! They look like something out of the third Lord of the Rings book - clouds of doom indeed!
bixa - "nothing dramatic"? That's akin to me saying about Winnipeg - "nothing wintry"!. Very beautiful as always.

I take that as very fine praise indeed, Imec, coming from someone with your amazing photographic talent.
When all of us talk about, compare, and share pictures of where we live or where we've been, I get a mental image of a big cartoony globe, with all of us little fisher-price figures happily passing the binoculars back and forth.

Yesterday morning, I flew to Orange County in Southern California. Both states have been in the midst of severe storms, but fortunately my plane took off and landed during lulls in the storm. I took some pictures (as usual with my phone) from the airplane window: Pulling away from the gate at Sky Harbor: Approaching the runway: An interesting bit of sky: A few minutes after takeoff: About 40 minutes later, approaching John Wayne airport: I wished I could have taken some pictures on the return later in the day as I flew into really beautiful skies coming back into Phoenix. But my phone battery was almost dead...

That's pretty scary -- especially the last one! The gray area in the middle looks disconcertingly similar to the hurricane formation shown on weather maps, and those giant polyps are weird as hell. Once again I think how I need to study up on cloud formations.

The color combinations in theses shots are so gorgeous. I am amazed that the Atlantic Ocean in Miami Beach is the same body of water I grew up next to on Long Island.I never saw such clarity and these shades of blue/aquamarine.

Here is a whole day of clouds. We're having really extraordinary weather for this time of year, and I love it. It's bucketing down, as I type. These were taken yesterday. The first one was in the morning. When I see these fog/cloud banks in the mountains, it always seems as though the mountains are waking up and the clouds are their dreams, floating back to where dreams originate. The second was in the late afternoon, right over the roof of the house, and the last two pictures were taken as evening fell. The video was taken as I came back up the driveway -- that's when the battery gave out.

As I drive throughout my city, I frequently come across moments where the sight in front of me is so photo-worthy. Unfortunately, I have not mastered driving while taking a photo, and many of these moments come to sight in a place without a suitable place to stop and capture. Today, I had to run an errand at lunch and was overwhelmed by the view of Mummy Mountain from the middle of the road. I took my life in my hands, for the Any Port motherland, and took one picture while driving. Then, when I arrived at my destination, I took another photo in the safety of a parking lot. Once again from my cell phone. Neither are satisfactory, really, but I still thought they might be enjoyed. I'm posting in the clouds thread because some pretty clouds are in the photos. Really, I just loved the way the light played against the mountain. My death photo: The safer version:

Gosh, those are nice, Cristina and Kerouac!
I love cloud shadows on the mountains. They're especially beautiful when seen from an airplane.
Kerouac, that's another one that meets my framed-on-the-wall criterion!

I have to confess that I am famous for NOT remembering where I have posted. And because I posted from my phone today, I sort of missed previous posts, some of which I should have seen before... Kerouac, your photo looks like an underwater photo, looking upward...really beautiful! Bixa, your cloud pictures always remind me of my skies. I think we have more similarities than not. And Casimira, your photo is like a sky that I almost never see here. But the colors are so beautifully subtle. The picture that I took today, I should add, was pure serendipity. When I aimed my phone upward, I was essentially blinded so I had no idea what the result would be. I took only one picture, but I was pretty excited by the result. Its also worth noting that with conventional photography equipment, I pretty much suck raw eggs...
