I love to see wasps' nests; they are so intricate and artistic. And that's a colourful Mr Frog.

Kimby, he was a little one, really. He just looks big, because he's all puffed up.
He has nice markings doesn't he Spindrift?

I wondered why my bird bath was always empty! BTW, the bark on the well head was pulled off in the night, probably by a bear seeking ants.

Good grief -- that delicate shading & texture that you caught is amazing, Rikita. And the musculature and construction of the wing adds to the picture, but is most interesting as well.
Rikita, have you given any thought to assembling some of your bird pictures into a separate thread? It could go in Post Cards maybe, so that it could be found and re-visited easily. You have so many good ones here that just get lost in the shuffle, especially since this particular thread seems to be degenerating into more chat than photographic topic.

I wasn't really sure where this should go - are butterflies "wild life"?

Nice pic, with the ferns and darks & lights. What about the insects thread, Kimby?

i will look at it bixa... i was planning to do a photo thread at some point again (similar to the carneval one - but i was more thinking of one for one of my cycling tours or similar) - just a matter of time though, but i will at some point...

well i suppose insects are wild life too... that one is very nice colour-wise and with the lighter and darker fern! one thing i would like even better is if the butterfly wasn't quite as much to the top of the picture (mainly because one of the ... um, dunno the english word, the long things at the end of the head ... seems to be a bit cut off) but that is just a little thing - it is a great picture.

Whatever you think, Rikita. The cycling thing sounds fabulous. Didn't want to nag, simply express admiration and greed for more.
"antenna"?

This Great Grey Owl has been hanging around our lake cottage the past couple weeks. First one I've ever seen in my life. They are not common and normally live farther north, coming south mainly during hard winters when their prey gets hard to find. They hunt rodents under the snow, using their hearing to locate their prey and diving INTO the snow to catch it.! The large facial disks act like satellite dishes to funnel sound to their ears which are near their eyes.

Yes Cheery, she does take wildlife pictures very well. I personally like the tiny green/rust bird, the look in the foxes eyes and the rabbit. Thanks Cherry! Mich

Cheery, you have such a good eye and obviously the skill and patience to go with it. Really wonderful photos! Even though I flipped over the perfection of the fuzzy fellow on the marigold, every single one of these are marvelous. Besides the clarity of the insects you captured, there are wonderful details, such as the blush on the apple blossom & the veins & wetness on the moth's green leaves.
The swallows kill me! I have tried so hard to capture them with the camera, swooping and clicking and catching nothing but blurry sky.
I also love the bold simplicity of each of your single-subject pics.

You are very kind Bixa dear...they're just photographs tho ;D These days with digital technology being so good and downloading your images being so simple I think that you can turn out quite nice images relatively easily. My camera isn't a very advanced or expensive one...just a point and shoot. Opportunity is the key tho isn't it? ;D

Ha ~~ good one, Imec! I don't care what Cheery ( ) says, there is a great deal of talent involved in being alert to good photo opportunities and staying calm enough to capture them well, not to mention the composition, etc., as Imec shows so beautifully.
